I wrote this guide to help you understand KarmaZoo better.
Our main aim is to have a blast and ensure everyone else does too. Another big goal is to avoid irritating other players – that’s the opposite of what we want.
But here’s the deal: the level design and mechanics might throw you off at first, making new players unintentionally annoying. Hurrying to finish a level quickly doesn’t give you good karma. Leaving fellow players behind is also a no-no.
In a nutshell, teaming up, exploring, and figuring out how to earn karma within the time limit are your best bets for scoring karma.
Let’s get started!
Karma Loot Boxes
Guess what! Karma loot boxes are like the VIPs of KarmaZoo—they’re where you get most of your karma. Imagine these special boxes as secret treasure chests with hearts on them, waiting for you to unlock by solving puzzles. You’ll often find them tucked away on hidden paths, and using a lantern or a teapot can reveal their whereabouts.
Here’s the scoop: these loot boxes always hang out in the same spot in their levels. But, there’s a catch. Sometimes, you won’t have all the characters you need to reach one. When this happens, if someone notices, they’ll do the heartbreak emote to let everyone know it’s a no-go. When you can’t crack the puzzle, it’s time to move on—there’s no magic trick to reach that karma box.
The cool part? Remember how you cracked the karma loot box code, and when you see other players again, share the wisdom. Spreading knowledge is key!
Tasks Which Earn Karma
In KarmaZoo, your main gig is racking up karma. Helping out your team is a big part of that, and usually, they go hand in hand. When you finish a round, the karma you earn gets shared with your team. Remember, helping others with karma is basically helping yourself.
Now, here are some golden rules:
- Kissing: It’s as simple as it sounds. Share your karma as soon as it’s ready, but watch where you aim – we don’t want it falling into the abyss. Start early and keep the karma love flowing throughout the level.
- Holding Doors Open: Super crucial. Opening a door gets you karma from the folks who pass through it. If you’re passing through, be a door champ and stand on the switch for those behind you. Multiple teammates on one switch means karma for all. Don’t rush; wait for your team to catch up.
- Team Karma Stats: If ten pals are playing, the team gets at least 18 karma, but it can go up to a whopping 81. Teamwork makes the karma dream work!
- Special Characters and Karma: Some characters score karma when their tombstones are used – like the wolf, spinning top, and clover. They’re cool with sacrificing for the team, so stand on those tombstones.
- Voice Blocks and Plant Blocks: Activate voice blocks and get karma. Take turns with plant blocks while you wait for something else. Cooldowns happen, so multitask wisely.
- Special Lifting Abilities: Characters like the plant, whale, alien, spring, and clam earn karma when you stand on their platform. If they offer, take them up on it, even if you don’t desperately need it.
- Spider’s Web Ladder: The spider can make a web ladder for others. Even if you’re feeling Spiderman-level agile, use it to give the spider some well-deserved karma.
Stick to these rules, and you’ll be a karma master in no time!
Fruits Aren’t All That Important
Let’s talk about fruits – they’re like bonus points in a game, but in KarmaZoo, they’re not the star players.
Here’s the deal: Fruits mainly help you snag bonuses for the next round. Many players aim to collect all the fruits for a shot at sweet bonuses in the next go-round. But here’s the twist – unless you have the fruits=karma bonus, they won’t earn you any karma.
So, keep your eyes on the real karma earners: opening doors, backing up your team with all the tricks, and sending those karma kisses. If a fruit slips through your fingers, no biggie. Focus on the karma-rich moves, and you’ll be in good shape. Don’t let those fruits steal the spotlight!
The “Secret Treasure Room” Secretly Sucks
Time to spill the beans about the “Secret Treasure Room” – it’s not as awesome as it sounds.
Remember, fruits don’t bring home the karma bacon. And guess what the Secret Treasure Room dishes out as a reward? Yup, you guessed it – fruits. Sure, there’s a karma loot box hidden in every treasure room, but let’s be real – these levels aren’t any fancier than the regular ones.
Here’s the scoop: Rather than joining the fruit frenzy, keep your eyes peeled for that sneaky karma loot box while others scramble to crack open treasure chests. Once you find it, be the hero and spread the word to your fellow players. That’s the real secret worth sharing!
Truth About the Static Karma Bonus Cards
Getting extra seconds or fruits usually gives you better rewards than static karma bonuses like 5, 10, or 25 karma. Sometimes, these dynamic rewards are even better than 100 karma cards.
Boomerang kisses make your kiss come back to you, while triple kisses send out three kisses, and quadruple kisses send out four. When you have multiple kisses, get close to other players and shoot directly into them so they collide quickly. Aim a bit upwards to grab them if the shot misses.
Keep in mind that karma kisses increase other players’ scores, and at the end of the loop, all player scores are added together. This makes karma kisses more valuable than a mere five karma card.
Don’t fall for the trap. The only exception is karma cards worth 100 and up, or when the other options are not good. When in doubt, let others vote.
About the Achievements
Understanding the specific constellation achievements people are pursuing is crucial. For example, the elephant aims to have everyone stand on their blocks, the camel tries to carry five keys, and the corgi needs to break five voice blocks. Some of these tasks are challenging alone and may depend on fortunate level generation.
Assisting players in achieving these goals can lead to gratitude and increase their willingness to help you. Recall the challenges you faced when unlocking constellations, and make an effort to support others in their journey.
Determine Your Abilities and Use Them
Understanding your character’s abilities is crucial. Practice them in the level to ensure you know what you can do. Some actions are exclusive to your character and are necessary to pass certain parts of the loop.
The levels generate based on the team’s skills. If you can glide farther or jump higher, it means only you can solve specific puzzles for everyone. If you’re the sole character with certain abilities, avoid lagging behind, as there might be puzzles ahead that require your skills.
Pay attention to others emoting at you; they might be offering hints on what actions you should take to progress in the game.
Don’t Immediately End the Level
Don’t rush to end the level before everyone is ready. The game is not a speed run, and there’s no reward for completing it quickly. Take the time given to complete all tasks in the level and check for additional ways to earn karma near the portal.
If your teammates are not at the portal, refrain from finishing the level. They might be completing another task, and ending the game prematurely can be frustrating for them. Pay attention to teammates showing a red hand or pointing in a direction, indicating they don’t want you to finish.
When the counter reaches zero, it doesn’t mean the end of the level. A sandstorm will start, giving you roughly ten seconds before the game concludes. Don’t give up during a sandstorm if there’s a chance of completing the level.
Note: If the level begins with a card converting leftover time into karma, it’s advisable to finish promptly, but not immediately. Remember to collect karma boxes and assist teammates with their tasks.
Be Considerate With Keys
If you have a key, you’re responsible for deciding the party’s destination. If you’re unsure, explore and observe. Look for other players guiding you in the right direction.
If you encounter an obstacle while carrying a key and can’t proceed, let someone else take over. Dropping keys is possible by dying, and teammates can grab them in mid-air. If you’re uncertain, throw your character onto spikes when someone else is nearby to retrieve the key.
Keep in mind that some levels require navigating through obstacles to reach the end and use the key to access the karma loot box. Exercise patience.
If someone is holding onto a key and preventing the team from progressing, a common solution is to kick them. However, be patient, as the character may be lost in the process.
Being a Ghost is Not the End
Ghosts are incredibly useful characters in the game. You can become a ghost by isolating yourself. If you become a ghost, either intentionally or accidentally, you can still contribute to your team by:
- Sending karma kisses: Even as a ghost, you can send kisses to benefit your team.
- Exploring and communicating: Let your teammates know the locations of fruit and karma boxes.
- Keeping the team informed: Update your team on the progress of other players, especially if someone is stuck.
- Guiding lost players: Assist teammates with directions if they are lost in the level.
- Bonus card advantages: Depending on activated bonus cards, you might even help collect fruit or key items. This is a powerful bonus card that is rarely selected but can be highly effective.
Clover Farming
The top strategy for getting karma is opening clover boxes, but sometimes eager new players end the game too soon.
Clovers willingly jump onto spikes, and people stand on the boxes to release karma.
If you’re a clover:
- Look for a respawn spot near spikes or acid.
- Throw yourself onto the hazard and respawn.
- Hope someone stands on your box.
- Repeat until your boxes cover the hazard, or a blowfish/bell breaks the box for continuous repeats.
If there’s another clover, you can solve each other’s boxes. If there’s a breaking character, like a blowfish or bell, multiple clovers can leave boxes in the same spot. Respawn, stand over the same spike, fall onto the spike below, and repeat. This boosts clover box productivity.
If you’re a regular character:
- Ensure you’re not crucial for solving the level.
- If needed, wait until the portal opens before grinding.
- Find a clover on spikes and help them solve their boxes.
If you’re a breaking character:
- Make sure you’re not essential for solving the level.
- Break clover boxes in grinding spots for a great karma source.
- Use your smashing ability to break the boxes, allowing clovers access to spikes again.
Remember, finding the karma loot box is primary; grind karma until the final bell once you find it.
Don’t Just End the Final Level
Never finish the last level until everyone is happy with the plinth.
Level designers often hide karma boxes at the end, past the reward plinths. Many new players rush to the plinth and press W to finish the level immediately.
AVOID THIS.
It’s a major frustration in the game. Typically, some players will stand in front of the plinths, signaling with a red hand and pointing away. They want others to explore the plinths or return to the level to find the karma loot box.
Karma boxes might be above the tallest plinth or in a concealed passage off-screen.
Even if you believe there’s nothing beyond or above the plinths, let other players check for themselves.
TL;DR
To sum up:
- Avoid ending the level prematurely.
- The primary karma source is discovering the Karma loot boxes.
- Assisting fellow players is the second-best way to earn karma.
- Do not conclude the level prematurely.
- Stand on the door switches with everyone to accumulate karma.
- Fruits only contribute to unlocking bonus cards; no other benefits.
- Emphasize that it’s not a speed run.
- Once again, stress the importance of not ending the level too early.
