Hokko Life sometimes has problems, and one issue is that your game files can get messed up if you don’t close the game properly. I’ll show you how to keep a backup of your game saves, just in case something goes wrong.

Introduction

I’ve had this problem a few times:

Everything’s good, playing Hokko Life, and then the power goes out. When I open the game again, my save is “broken.”

I couldn’t find a solution once this happens. The developers can’t recover your save, and the “auto backups” don’t seem to work for me. It’s annoying, especially if you’ve made progress. But, this game is adorable, and I didn’t want to stop playing just because of a random issue. So, I found a way to manually back up my saves and wanted to share it with anyone else worried about their saves getting messed up.

On a side note, I know there’s an automatic way to do this, but I haven’t figured it out yet. Feel free to help me or correct me if I’m wrong about anything!

How to Backup Save Game

Firstly, you’ll have to find the folder containing your Hokko Life saves. To do this, open File Explorer and go to Local Disk. Then, navigate through the following folders:

Users > Username > AppData > Roaming > Wonderscope > Hokko Life > SaveData

Inside, you’ll find numbered folders representing your saves, ranging from 01 to 03, depending on how many saves you have and where they are stored.

Before backing up the saves, you need a place to store them. You can choose any location, but I made a folder on my desktop and named it “Hokko Life Backups.” I recommend making it easily accessible and identifiable for future use.

Now that’s sorted, go back to your saves, copy the one you want to back up, and paste it into the folder you just created. Congratulations, your save is now secure! Hooray!

How to Load the Backup

To load the saves you’ve backed up, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the folder where you copied your save.
  2. Copy the save from that location.
  3. Return to your Hokko Life saves.
  4. Paste and replace the save in that folder with the one from your backups.

That’s it! Your previous data should now be restored!

Quick FAQ

How often should you back up?

  • Whenever you craft something, finish a quest, create a custom design, or any similar activity, I recommend backing up your save. However, if you’ve just strolled around for a few minutes or left the game open, there’s not much need to back up anything.

What should you do when backing up the same save?

  • When you want to back up the same save file multiple times, you’ll be asked to replace the previous backup. I recommend doing this to prevent messing with the files and to avoid confusion when loading them later.
