This guide will show you how to get started in Direct Contact, an online PvP video game developed and published by Mountain 81.
How to Get Started
In the main menu, to begin, go to profile, enter your name, and select a symbol.
When it comes to Settings, you can change your keyboard shortcuts and graphics settings to make your PC work better. (You can do this even while playing.)
Starting a Game
To start a game:
- Press THE WORLD
- To begin a new game for yourself, click Open a Server. At the top right of the screen, choose between (Single Player, LAN, or up to 8 players using Asterix’s to pick how many spaces you want in your server, then click HOST LOBBY,) at the bottom left of the screen.
Joining a Server
If you are joining a friend’s server:
- Press WORLD.
- Click Join a server, navigate to the server browser, select your friend’s server, then click join server!
The HQ
- When you start a server and enter the game, you can choose different spawn points for the HQ after pressing NATO first. The options for the HQ include:
- The Helipad (Go directly to missions)
- The briefing room (Get a briefing and access missions from the computer on the desk by pressing F)
- The CQB shoot-house
- The mid-range shoot house
- The MRAP & Shooting Range (Customize your weapon, character, outfit roles, and gadgets)
- The live-Firing Exercise
- There’s no longer a required wait time for the HELICOPTER. You can directly access missions from the briefing room by pressing F on the monitor on the desk.
- When customizing your character, Roles are necessary to use specific kit items. Roles are found on the right side of the pop-out menu. You can choose roles and enlist, and the screen shows what items can be used for each role.
- A new healing system is implemented. If you are downed, press and hold the right arrow key to get back up. To heal, press and hold the tab (or you will bleed out).
- The game now features new weapon sways that consider the weight and ergonomics of moving the gun, including factors like breathing and arm fatigue. New character movement options are available in the main settings, allowing you to customize head-bobbing, mouse sensitivity, and field of view.
- The menu system is completely reworked for better customization options. To customize your character or weapon, access the vehicle (helicopter or MRAP) and press F. The pop-out menu appears on the right for role selection, and on the left, you’ll find menus for character and weapon customization.
- Character customization has three options, accessible on the left side of the customization menu. Character roles are found on the right side of the customization menu.
- The customization menu’s left side has a gear icon for weapon customization.
- The JTAC tablet now allows you to pick air strike assets and then use the laser pointer (Range Finder) to call it to the requested location.
- Running animations have changed, requiring you to hold Shift for sprinting and double-press Shift for full tactical sprint. Walking animations include a basic walk and a faster walk achieved by holding Alt and scrolling the mouse wheel forward.
- Several new weapons are introduced, such as HK416, AUG, Grenade launcher, Skorpion, Remington 700 Sniper Rifle, beretta M9A3, rocket launchers (M72 & RPG7), and more.
- Weapon malfunctions like double feed, misfire, or failure to eject are now part of the game.
- The suppression system is fully functional, working against AI without bugs.
- You can put the pin back into a grenade by holding the mouse button, pressing & holding Alt, then pressing the left mouse button (Note: You cannot cook grenades).
- AI behavior patterns include patrolling, taking cover when spotted, firing back from cover, trying to flank, and being determined not to die.
- A new map system allows players to have a mini-map on their screen and access an in-game map (pressing M) showing med & ammo box locations, checkpoints, and points of interest.
- You can add and remove markers on the map for your team to understand directions. The compass color on the top of the screen is changed to green for better visibility.
- You can choose between different nods, including infrared green or white-phosphorous nods.
- Flags, patches (including a GLID Patch), and various customization options for your character, including changing camos, are now available.
