This guide will show you how to save the survivors from the Hag’s Prison in Act 3 in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Hag Survivors Club In Act 3
The Hag Survivors Club is found in the lower city at Old Garlow’s place, specifically at coordinates (-49; -127).
To start your quests, go to this location. There are three tasks: save Mayrina, save Vanra, and deal with the hag once and for all.
Upon your arrival, you’ll discover that Mayrina is under a curse inflicted by the hag.
Here’s what you need to do to lift the curse.

After taking action to lift the curse, be prepared for enemies to attack. Defeat them before proceeding.
Mayrina will inform you about the anti-hag bomb recipe. To find it, head to the first floor of Old Garlow’s place. Look for a safe concealed within the wall.
Inside the safe, you’ll discover a book containing the anti-hag bomb recipe. Read the book to unlock the recipe for future use.
Once you’ve unlocked the recipe by reading the book, craft the Hag’s Bane. This is crucial for saving Vanra.
To effectively deal with the hag’s mushrooms, you’ll need something fiery.
Prioritize eliminating all the mushrooms before confronting the hag herself. This sequence is essential for success.
For additional information on Vanra, you have two options: meet her at the Flaming Fists or visit the Mermaid to confront witnesses. However, having the recipe makes these steps optional. You can skip directly to the hag’s lair without triggering scripted cutscenes, ensuring accessibility to the hag fight and allowing you to start saving everyone.
Here’s the route to the hag’s lair in the basement of the Blushing Mermaid:
Inside the lair, you’ll encounter a familiar scenario from Act 1, complete with masked prisoners near the final room where the hag awaits. If you intend to save them, sneak past and open the room on your left. More details on the masks will be covered in the next section.
Ensure you have the Hag’s Bane and fiery tools to handle the mushrooms at this point.
If you skipped the encounter with Captain Grisly at the Mermaid and headed straight to the lair, the room may be empty. Arrange your party strategically to deal with three sets of mushrooms, then use a fire arrow on one of them.
The hag will appear, delivering known lore about Vanra’s kidnapping. Despite the exposition, your goal remains to defeat the hag.
Once the battle begins, prioritize eliminating all mushrooms as per Mayrina’s instructions. Subsequently, use the Hag’s Bane on the hag. To identify the real hag among her copies, employ something like a magic missile that hits multiple targets; the fakes will vanish, and the real one will respond.
Regarding the mushrooms, the instructions might mislead, emphasizing hitting them with fire. In reality, the key is preventing their regeneration, and they are exceptionally vulnerable to fire. Note that the Fireball spell doesn’t apply the burning status but significantly damages the mushrooms.
After applying the Hag’s Bane, Vanra will escape, allowing you to finish off the hag for good.

In earlier patches, attempting to proceed without crafting the Hag’s Bane resulted in Vanra’s release, but she ended up dead. It’s uncertain whether this is a bug or intentional, so for a guaranteed outcome, it’s advisable to obtain the Hag’s Bane recipe from Mayrina.
Regrettably, the masked prisoners remain unchanged from Act 1. Only one of them can be saved; the others are beyond assistance regardless of your efforts.
Contrary to any myths, attempting to steal the masks proves ineffective in this situation as well.
It seems the intention is to provide the full DND hag experience, encompassing both the devastation and glory.
If you happen to have a mask from Act 1, you can communicate with the new set of prisoners. Each one bears letters explaining why they sought the hag’s services and the promises she made to them.
While the situation may be grim, the best you can do is strive to keep them alive. Check out my video for a guide on the fight and saving the masks.
Here, you can witness a failed attempt to save Vanra without using the Hag’s Bane. Despite knocking out the hag, Vanra was released, but her cutscene failed to appear, ultimately leading to her death. This underscores the importance of crafting the Hag’s Bane for a successful resolution.
