  • Title: Total War: NAPOLEON - Definitive Edition
  • Release Date: February 25, 2010
  • Developer: CREATIVE ASSEMBLY, Feral Interactive (Mac)
  • Publisher: SEGA, Feral Interactive (Mac)

The following guide describes how to restore functionality of certain mods, restore pre-patch executable that brings back multiplayer chat in the menu (messaging untested), fix the missing cannon sounds, automatically skip intro logos, and change the main menu video color to blue from the initial release.

Options

You can select from the following fixes/patches for the game:

  1. Restore functionality of mods (such as The Great War mod) that check for the presence of pre-patch pack files by adding dummy files into the game’s “data” folder
  2. Restore pre-patch executable that brings back multiplayer (MP) chat in the menu (untested) and fixes the missing cannon sounds
    • Can play multiplayer only with those that are using the same “old” version of the game
    • Likely incompatible with 12th and 13th gen Intel CPUs
  3. Automatically skip intro logos
  4. Change main menu video color to blue from the initial release

Installation

After downloading the desired files from this link, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are using the most recent version of the game
    • If you have recently switched to the “mac” beta version, opt out of this beta
  2. Extract the contents of the downloaded archives in the correct order (1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4, or just AIO) into the main NTW game folder
    • To get to the main game folder, right-click the game in your Steam library, select the last option named “Properties…” and under the tab called either “Local Files” or “Installed Files” (depending on the version of the Steam client) click on the “Browse…” button

Removal

To restore the game without verifying the game files, follow these steps:

  1. Delete pack files starting with the word “patch” from the game’s “data” folder
  2. If you used either option 2 or the AIO patch, you also need to download “Backup.zip” and extract the contents of the archive into the main NTW game folder

Conclusion

If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback, such as info on whether option 2 works on the latest Intel CPUs, please, leave a comment.
