Well, it isn’t exactly a challenge but I don’t have a better word for it since you’re playing the game with another game’s rules.
The Car
The only car you will be able to use throughout the run is the Trabant 601 – specifically, the sedan. Like most other vehicles in TLD, it’s a real car and the inspiration for the Laika 601 Deluxe from Jalopy. I suggest changing the time on your computer to manipulate the chances of it spawning at the start of the game.
Parts & Customization
Doors, trunk lids, and hoods not meant for the car are banned; the best way to tell if something isn’t meant for it is if it doesn’t fit (as shown below). However, this
does notmean that spray-painting parts of the car isn’t allowed. Having the passenger-side door a different color is encouraged and will reward you with nonexistent bonus points.
Engines and tires, on the other hand, don’t have any restrictions. Please note that the truck engine on the left (and most likely the bus engine too) are large enough to touch the ground and lift up the front end of the the car while larger engines, like the one on the right, clip through the front of the vehicle. Unlike in Jalopy, the Trabant is air-cooled and doesn’t have the need for a coolant tank.
This does mean that the engine can overheat if you aren’t careful!
Storage & Items
Just like in Jalopy, you now have limited trunk space. 2 tires in the middle and whatever else you can fit on either side. I roughly translated this to 2 tires, 2 gas/oil containers, and 9 of whatever else you can fit (sponges, brushes, paint, etc). As a note, things like ammo and cigarettes are allowed in the glove compartment; the limit is up to you.
Aside from the trunk, you can only store 3 other objects in the back seat, translating being able to hold onto 3 things while driving. Keep in mind that not everything fits back there!
Trailers of all kinds are allowed, and you can put in them as much as you can fit.
Other Rules
The following are rules that don’t fit in the previous categories.
- In Jalopy, you take your uncle from Berlin to Turkey. Since there are no other people in TLD, I have come up with 2 alternatives: the giraffe you can find on your bed at the start and the blow-up doll in the basement. Just like in the source material, taking “Uncle” with you is entirely optional.
- You can only sleep when you’re at a building. This is to reflect the motels you can rest at in Jalopy.
- You cannot drive without all 4 wheels. They can all be different, but you need 4 attached to the car to move. Hubcaps don’t matter.
- You have to apply the handbrake to exit the car and you have to be at a complete stop, pushing and steering is still allowed.
i’d put more rules here but i don’t have any
