- Patch Title: Important update: video codec, mouse, and leaderboard.
- Patch Release Date: April 11, 2024
The developer of Pinbot has released a new update for the game on April 11, 2024. Here are the new things that you should expect to see or change on this new update. This information was curated directly from the official announcement on Steam.
Summary of changes:
- Resolution of the video codec issue, which caused crashes.
- Resolution of the mouse issue introduced in version 1.2.0.
- Resolution of minor issues with the leaderboard.
Video Codec
We consider it important to try to avoid, as much as possible, annoying events such as application crashes. The videos included in Pinbot, including some completely unsuspected ones, were historically created in WebM format. This video format turned out to be problematic, to the extent of causing random and unpredictable crashes of the application. The VP8 codec caused so many headaches for the Godot team that it was decided to abandon it completely in later versions of the game engine.
The solution to the problem was to abandon the WebM format in favor of Theora, the only other format supported by Godot. Unfortunately, this involved rendering all the internal videos of the game and, consequently, a rather heavy update in terms of the amount of data to download.
Mouse
It happens! With the upload of version 1.2.0, the use of the game controller was introduced, as requested by some users. Unfortunately, a bug was also introduced, whereby the “braking” system linked to the use of the game controller interacted erroneously with the mouse, which thus found itself subjected to two different “brakes” at the same time… For those who understand, a single stupidly badly nested “if”…
Leaderboard
A small bug was discovered in the leaderboard, which made some records “disappear” into thin air, simply because they were poorly registered by the system.
