Progression notes
1. Every character starts with a common ammo type. Solaar starts with mostly ion drops. Karma starts with fire. Julia with light, etc. By the time you get to the first boss you will start to get their second common ammo drops. At this point, for example, Julia will be able to start getting ion drops. Once you reach the jungle (stage three), your character will be able to pick up their third drops. Using Julia as an example again, she will start getting fire drops. Going into the prison (stage four) is when characters get their fourth ammo type.
2. Power ups commonly favor the character’s two starting ammo drops.
3. If you play on hard difficulty, then you will receive fewer items and ammo drops. This even includes static drops. Where you would once find ammo, grenades, mana, or mines are now empty.
4. Melee damage scales off weapon control and armor combined. The higher both are, the more melee damage you will do.
Character similarities and differences
1. Every character shares a dash attack damage increase. It’s about twice the normal melee damage.
2. All male characters have a faster, and much lower, backwards dodge compared to the female characters. This leaves the female characters with worse dodges overall.
3. Male characters, with the exception of Maxx Havok, all attack with similar animations. The female characters are the same way. Maxx Havok has a punch instead of an additional kick.
General element notes
1. Fire has an enormous amount of active frames. This is noticeable when killing an enemy with fire, and watching their corpse burn up. The same applies with any type of flora. The plant will burn for a while even after what seems to be the end of the animation. Any plant can be detonated by any attack that isn’t considered a melee move. This includes enemy projectiles.
2. Fire and ion have a noticeable damage difference on machines compared to light. Ion can even stunlock turrets, or remove their ammo canister very quickly.
3. Ion and fire can cause self damage. Ion and fire can damage your character up close. Fire has to be point blank, but ion can cause self damage in water, or if a target that is already being affected by it is close enough.
4. If you are under the effects of the Shield spell, anything fire related cannot harm you. This includes planting mines (or any explosive) on top of yourself for more damage, enemy melee attacks that are on fire, etc. The Ghost spell is an upgraded version of this where you are fully invincible.
5. Ghost enemies can only be attacked with specific elements (ion, fire, etc.). This extends to grenades and mines.
General AI and gameplay notes
1. Characters have a noticeable lack of invincibility frames after being hit. It is possible for attacks to quickly overlap a character, and deal more damage overall. In the factory (stage two), the flamethrower robots are capable of dealing multiple hits with their fire from one stream. Turrets can quickly hit your character twice, etc.
2. The AI for enemies with projectiles is easy to take advantage of when they are preparing to fire at you. They will not fire at you until you stop moving. So this means if any enemy is preparing to fire at you, they will stay in their aiming stance, allowing you to run past. They will still fire at you if you have your back turned to them while they are aiming.
3. The common enemies with rifles are noticeably more aggressive on hard difficulty. They will much more frequently duck your shots, and even demonstrate a move where they rapid fire twice in succession.
4. Stun animations in this game are very quick to end. Not just for you, but also for enemies. This can make it harder to deal with them as you’ll see yourself trading shots in a hectic firefight.
5. If you fire while crouching, then jump, you can do the equivalent of a full running jump from in place. Information courtesy of Mekire.
