As a huge fan of Hogs Of War, I’ve noticed a lack of guides and tutorials for setting up the game on Windows 10. With almost 10,000 hours invested in the game, I wanted to share a solution I found to get it running on my Windows 10 system. While there are many tutorials available, this method worked specifically for my computer, so results may vary depending on your PC. Without delay, let me walk you through what I did.
How to Play in Windows 10 OS
First things first, download the Windows 10 fix mod from this link.
Once done, go to the Files section for Hogs of War and find the “Hogs Of War – Windows 10 Fix” file. Click on ‘Free Download’ at the top of the page. You’ll encounter a timer while the website locates the files for you. Once the timer is up, proceed to click on “Download from Metro”. This action should initiate the download of a file named “hogsofwarwin10fix”.
After the download completes, you’ll want to extract the files to a temporary location, such as your desktop or a specific folder.
Upon extraction, you’ll find several contents within the extracted file. One notable item is the “Lisez Moi” file, which appears to lead to a guide created by another user some time ago. This suggests a potential connection to an older patch. However, it’s important to note that this patch was crafted in 2021, making it relatively more recent compared to some other solutions.
After you’ve gotten the files, move them to your primary Hogs Of War hub on Steam. You can find this by navigating through Steam > steamapps > common > HogsofWar.
You have two options: duplicate the files or move them directly. Afterward, make sure to swap out the existing files with the new ones.
To improve the performance of my Hogs of War game, I tweaked the compatibility mode. Specifically, I switched it from Windows 95 to Windows 8.
This adjustment catered to my setup, as I’m using a particular version of Windows 10. However, keep in mind that this solution may vary for others. You might need to test different compatibility settings to find the optimal one for your system.
If all goes smoothly and you manage to launch the game, you’re good to go.
Just a heads up about this patch: there’s a bit of a slowdown in certain menus. One of the noticeable ones is the local multiplayer lobby screen, especially when you’re choosing the number of players or CPUs.
Before I conclude this guide, I want to mention two important points:
- This solution worked specifically for my PC. Depending on the components of another PC, you might need to experiment with different approaches. For me, adjusting the compatibility settings was the key.
- Additionally, I have access to the original app through Steam and can use it normally. However, not everyone may have this access. My setup involves a very specific version of Windows 10, which allows me to access the game through Steam seamlessly. I typically use this setup, particularly when I need to record gameplay footage for various purposes.
That's everything we are sharing today for this Hogs of War guide. This guide was originally created and written by Bobby. In case we fail to update this guide, you can find the latest update by following this link.
