This simple trick may deprive your experience of any and all further tension or excitement or stakes. Read on if you want to know it anyway.
Ordinarily, if a character is in perilous circumstances that will result in their death if no action is taken, and you try to quit the game or change characters/galaxies through the menu, the character will be instantly killed off. There is a way to avoid this. This is very useful if a frail character is shot and is being carried towards the airlock to their doom if your bleeding timer has run out if you don’t want to lose bleeding time in the first place, etc
Alt+Tab out of the game, and close the Heat Signature application window, rather than quitting through the menu.
Reopen the game.
Your would-be dead character is safe, they were never in danger, and nothing ever happened. The game does not remember your mistake. And you can forget all about it too.
And that’s how you never die in Heat Signature.
