When you’re playing Ever Crisis, you’ll need to mix different kinds of materia for your characters. Each materia takes some time to get ready, and this time decides if you’ll get something common or rare, sometimes even a choice between two rarities. The goal is to gather as many 5-Star materia as you can because these are the ones that deal the most damage or healing and come with the best extra abilities.
I suggest that when you’re combining materia and you have the materials to make sure you get a specific rarity, try to use as few materials as you can. For example, if you can guarantee a 3-Star, use mostly common materials and only a few of the rarer ones. This way, you save the more precious synth materials, which are not easy to get, for better use later on.
Except for the basic 1-Star materia, you can be sure of getting 2-Star and 3-Star materia. If you don’t have the materials to guarantee a 3-Star, it’s a good idea to focus on making 2-Star materia at its lowest level, which is level 2. Creating level 2/2-Star materia will cover almost all of your materia synthesis attempts, around 99%. Going for levels 3 and 4 by adding synth materials doesn’t increase the chance of getting a higher rarity and mostly just uses up precious synth materials, ensuring only a 2-Star materia. Many materia only need two or three 3-star synth materials to reach level two, but getting a guaranteed 3-Star at level 5 might need more than 10 materials, depending on the type, and many of them require at least one 5-Star synth material.
Look at the picture below to figure out what kind of materia you’ll get based on how long it takes to synthesize. If it takes a longer time, there’s a better chance you’ll get a more rare materia. If the synthesis time falls between two different rarities, it means the outcome could be either, but it’s more likely to be the lower rarity than the higher one.
