Weapons
Antspur Rapier
For your right hand if you’re using AoW.
You can get this from Maleigh Marais, the Shaded Castle Castellan. He’s a mean NPC located west of The Shaded Castle, nestled between Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir, under the bridge to the North. Defeat him and snag this sword along with a slick helmet.
If you’re feeling adventurous, add some bleed with Ash of War. It might be looted from Fort Haight, specifically from Godrick’s Knight. Even if you skip AoW, having bleed and Scarlet Rot effects on the rapier can greatly boost your combat prowess.
Rogiers Rapier +8
For your left hand.
This weapon is a reward from Sorcerer Rogier after you’ve triumphed over Godrick the Grafted. If you’re looking to tweak it, swap out the Ash of War for something toxic or poisonous (perhaps too much Warframe influence?). You could also consider another bleed effect because, well, why not?
Upgrade these weapons to the max, aiming for +12. I suggest grabbing Smithing Stone Bell Bearings early on; they’ll come in handy during your journey.
- For the 1st grade: Head to Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel in Liurnia, right by Howl’s walking Mausoleum and his neighbor Totoro.
- For the 2nd grade: Check out the Sealed Tunnel in Altus Plateau, located high above the church (South of the Capital).
Dagger

Discover this shield beneath the Beastial Sanctuary, hidden away on the lowest level.
Flamedrake
- You can acquire the base talisman by defeating the boss in Groveside Cave in Limgrave.
- Alternatively, aim for a +2 version by facing the boss in Dragonbarrow Cave.
Kindred of Rot’s Exultation
This powerful item is dropped by the duo boss lurking in Mt. Gelmir’s Seethewater Cave. You can access the cave from Altus Plateau.
Winged Sword Insignia
Secure this insignia by defeating the boss in Stillwater Cave, located South of Liurnia, just behind the medusa.
Other items
Golden Vow
This helpful item can be obtained from Shrimp, who resides in Boggart. It’s versatile, but it’s particularly effective when paired with Ash of War on a dagger. Remember to use it before a fight or between phases for maximum benefit.
You might also contemplate employing Rotten Breath or Pest Threads, but their effectiveness might not live up to the hype, at least not in this particular fight. All these options are accessible before facing the giant.
Tactic
It’s recommended to have your Vigor stat at least between 35 to 40, and around 20 points in Endurance.
In battle, prioritize evading his attacks. If you’re on horseback, close the distance quickly by yourself. While you can summon tankier spirits, it’s not essential. Instead, focus on spamming dual-wielded attacks with both rapiers. With this strategy, you’ll have that pesky, ginger-braided, overweight whale smelling flowers underground in no time.
