This guide covers all the things you need to do to finish all the wishes in the Endless Eclipse. It also reveals how each character is arranged, the plans to use, and the vulnerabilities they have.
The Endless Eclipse Overview
The Eclipse is a challenge where you have to endure through 100 layers, using each character to fulfill all the desires. It’s a lengthy and repetitive task, requiring a lot of replaying, and it can become quite monotonous.
I strongly suggest tackling this challenge only after you’ve finished the main game.
Important Unlocks
- After finishing the Eclipse, each character earns a unique outfit. Some outfits, like Guts, Zodd, Wyald, and Griffith, are particularly beneficial, granting an infinite frenzy transformation.
- Various rewards include all items, warhorses, character-specific accessories, and numerous behelits.
- Achieving completion in the eclipse desires, corresponding to different levels, unlocks many achievements and in-game features. For example, obtaining permanent Femto requires conquering the eclipse with every character.
Important General Combat Skills
- Wall Trapping: In battles, most bosses are on the move. However, if you manage to stun them, there’s a chance to trap them against the walls or map boundaries. This tactic can result in significant damage and consistent stun opportunities. While effective with all characters, it particularly stands out with Guts, Zodd, and Wyald, as their heavy (Y) attacks can deal massive damage when hitting multiple times.
- Animation Cancelling: As you progress in the game, animation cancelling becomes crucial. It’s a fairly straightforward technique – simply dodge (A) once the combo concludes. This is especially valuable for Apostle characters. They tend to emote after any combo, and instead of taking unnecessary damage or wasting your frenzy, a well-timed dodge lets you regain control efficiently.
Possible Bugs and Annoying Features
- Game Crashes: Experiencing game crashes can be quite frustrating, especially during the Eclipse where saves are unavailable, and checkpoints only occur every 20 layers. You can try our guide on how to fix how to fix BERSERK and the Band of the Hawk crashing to address the issue.
- Stun-locking: Be cautious about getting stun-locked, particularly by bosses like Femto. This can happen when bosses trap you in a corner. Avoid getting cornered between walls and hordes of enemies to prevent a run from being ruined.
- Invincibility Frame Inconsistency: There’s an inconsistency with invincibility frames, especially after depleting a health bar or stunning Wyald or Zodd. During these moments, they become untouchable for a few seconds, draining your frenzy without any returns. To cope with this, play it safe, learn when to time your frenzy, and consider running a bit before it completely drains.
Important Boss Strategies
Thief King: Dealing with this boss can be surprisingly annoying due to several factors. Firstly, he possesses an excessive number of invincibility frames, particularly during a specific attack where he charges through a flurry of claw slashes. No damage can be inflicted, even in frenzy mode, until after his ending animation when the white aura disappears. Additionally, his tail slam attack can knock you away, even in frenzy mode for certain characters. Moreover, he not only moves towards the player but can also launch and stun them multiple times. This boss has the potential to trap you against a wall and stun-lock you with his claw slash attack, draining your health. To counter this, it’s advisable to quickly use your final blow (B) or a puck spark to create some distance if you find yourself in such a situation. While not excessively difficult, this boss, found in the lower to mid-tier layers, introduces frustrating elements. To navigate this fight successfully, ensure you have a full frenzy, maintain a safe distance from walls, and stay away from him when you observe the white aura during his turning animation.
The Count: The Count isn’t particularly challenging, but it’s worth noting that horses aren’t allowed in his arena. This makes charging your frenzy a bit more challenging. To handle this boss, simply avoid his tentacles, time your frenzy well, and utilize the map to run around and recharge. Overall, the Count is considered an easy boss.
Wyald: When facing Wyald, employing a horse strategy is effective. Attack when possible and be cautious of his stomp, as you won’t be able to damage him during that move. However, be aware that Wyald’s hit-box can behave oddly when you turn him, often allowing only one or two hits. His club throw is the only threatening move, capable of knocking you off your horse and dealing significant damage in later layers. The club’s hit-box is not accurate, so running in zig-zags can help you avoid being hit, as even proximity to the club can register as a hit.
Ogre and Kelpie: Similar to Wyald, Ogre can throw a plank with an inaccurate hit-box, so it’s crucial to avoid that. Additionally, steer clear of Kelpie’s water attacks. The optimal strategy is to stay on your horse, maintain a safe distance until your frenzy meter is full, and then attempt to hit both enemies simultaneously.
Slan: Dealing with Slan is surprisingly easy. Charge her on your horse using the (Y) attack in the corner to build up your frenzy. Once she attacks, activate frenzy (B) and unleash your attacks. Slan will randomly disappear and becomes unkillable until she spawns 3 ogres. Ignore the ogres and continue running around on your horse. You can corner trap her as she can’t move out of the corner, making the fight more manageable.
Ganishka: Ganishka proves to be a challenging boss with a substantial health pool. However, if you play as any character besides Casca, a strategy involves spamming regular attacks (X) or heavy attacks (Y) at the edge of the stage. Once his health bar disappears, he will spawn in the center, then repeat this pattern. Be cautious of his lightning spawns and random attacks that may catch you off guard. In his later stage, he can stun-lock you, particularly if his lightning hits you consecutively. Avoid getting greedy with hits and prioritize dodging the lightning to prevent continuous damage. Since horses are not allowed in this stage, the horse strategy won’t work. Instead, stall for time by running along the edge away from Ganishka, avoiding random lightning attacks. Alternatively, attempt to land hits with a significant amount of dashing (A). There’s a war demon in the corner, but it’s best not to engage it during the fight as it can knock you into the lightning. Wait until you defeat Ganishka. Keep an eye out for his attack that covers the whole map, except the very corner. Pray that no lightning strikes in that exact spot to stay safe. Ensure you have your frenzy ready before engaging, and once you do, spam your most damaging attack to melt him as quickly as possible.
Femto: Femto presents a formidable challenge with multiple health bars, progressing through different phases. While reducing the first half of his health is manageable, the second half is notably time-consuming. Femto deploys orbs that track and follow you, causing your character to fall asleep for about 3 seconds. Without invincibility frames, this can lead to stun-locking, allowing Femto to combo you without any defense. As the battle progresses, more orbs appear, making it crucial to avoid them at all costs. Femto’s regular combos have a tendency to draw you into his attacks, even if you’re not in hitting range or behind him. Exercise caution and refrain from getting too close until he finishes his attack and waves his cape. The horse strategy is essential in this fight – maintain distance, strike when the orbs are not near you, and when he finishes attacking. If caught in his attacks without frenzy mode, Femto can deplete a significant portion of your health, so playing very safe is paramount. Even in frenzy mode, his orbs can still hit you if you’re not attacking or if you’re using Casca, so be cautious. The optimal approach is to employ the horse strategy, letting him chase you while building up frenzy. Avoid the orbs, get close enough for him to perform his attack, and when he conjures a tornado that fades away, activate your frenzy. Strike him in the back with your strongest attacks, mix in final blows (B), and utilize stun moves like puck spark. Keep an eye on your frenzy timer to know when to retreat and charge up again. Femto serves as a skill check, but with experience and better characters, you can optimize your damage and stunning power to make the fight more manageable.
Horse Strategy
The horse strategy proves to be quite straightforward. Bring your horse into the battle by using the call horse command (LT). Utilize the dash feature to damage enemies and build up frenzy. Opt for a horse with a resurgence ability, as it aids in passively providing frenzy charge. If no enemies are present, take a leisurely ride around the map to rebuild your frenzy gauge passively. When you’re ready to engage, activate frenzy mode (B). As your frenzy mode concludes, call the horse again, and repeat this process.
All the horses mentioned have the valuable stat of providing passive resurgence just by riding them. The Berserk horse, available as DLC, stands out as particularly advantageous due to its maximum resurgence and health stats, both highly beneficial attributes. Notably, the health stat works even without actively riding the horse, serving as a bonus to every character, even those unable to call a horse. The Skeleton horse, a solid choice before acquiring the DLC, offers reliable performance. And yes, the horse DLC includes that distinctive horse, adding an interesting and recognizable element to the game.
Pre-Eclipse Items
Before incorporating special accessories, I discovered that two particular accessories, along with specific stats, were highly effective for navigating the Eclipse with each character. The choice between these two accessories depends on personal preference, emphasizing either frenzy or base damage according to your preferred play style.
- Attack Idol: Initially, I began with the Attack Idol, focusing on boosting base damage. This choice provided a solid foundation for dealing damage before realizing the true power of frenzy mode.
- Frenzy Idol: Recognizing the potency of frenzy mode, I transitioned to using the Frenzy Idol. This accessory prioritizes enhancing your frenzy capabilities, allowing for a more dynamic and powerful approach during battles.
These two accessories are interchangeable, allowing you to tailor your stat sheet based on your preferences. Combining one of these with the two essential accessories yields a well-rounded setup with valuable bonuses for a smoother experience throughout the Eclipse with every character.
Guts Build
Guts in his Beast of Darkness form emerges as a formidable powerhouse, surprisingly swift, and, in my opinion, one of the strongest bonus outfits, alongside Femto.
His heavy attack spam (Y), featuring a flip and a ground-dragging sword combo, proves to be particularly potent. This move can effectively juggle various enemies, including Femto, leading to multiple stuns. Executing this attack is straightforward – spam (Y) and move in the desired direction, prolonging the attack duration.
Guts’ regular (X) spam is also remarkably powerful, and his overall combos showcase his OP nature. Regardless of the combo chosen, Guts in this form packs a punch.
His final blow (B) is impressive, launching nearby enemies into the air, dealing damage, and causing an explosion. This move has a high chance of stunning anything it doesn’t outright eliminate, delivering substantial damage.
Unfortunately, Guts in this form cannot summon his warhorse. However, this limitation doesn’t significantly impact his effectiveness, as his frenzy gauge fills up rapidly. Notably, he appears immune to Femto orbs when attacking in this mode, further enhancing his combat prowess.
Wyald Build
Wyald presents an intriguing character with a unique playstyle that demands frequent animation cancelling, particularly due to his extended emotes following each combo. Quick dashes effectively cancel these emotes.
His regular (X) attacks can be somewhat inconsistent – hitting enemies might not always register, and the damage output can vary. However, Wyald’s heavy (Y) attack stands out as his most potent move. This belly-flop slide can deal substantial damage, especially when enemies are wall-trapped, leading to useful stuns.
For an effective strategy against bosses, initiate frenzy mode and aim to line up Wyald’s heavy (Y) attack. After it concludes, perform an animation cancel (A) leading into his four-hit regular (X + 4) combo, with an additional animation cancel at the end (A). Repeat this sequence, incorporating final blows (B) and maintaining a safe approach with frenzy mode.
Despite not having a warhorse, Wyald compensates with his inherent power. Notably, he remains unaffected by Femto orbs while in this mode, contributing to his overall resilience and effectiveness in battle.
Zodd Build
Zodd operates similarly to Wyald, although requiring slightly less animation cancelling. Both characters share similar heavy and regular attacks.
Zodd’s flying attack (Y) mirrors Wyald’s belly-flop, delivering substantial damage, especially effective when enemies are wall-trapped. While I recommend animation cancelling once it concludes, there’s a brief delay before the attack starts, and unfortunately, this wait time cannot be avoided.
Compared to Wyald, Zodd’s regular attacks (X) exhibit better consistency in hitting enemies. However, similar to Wyald, an animation cancel is advisable after the combo string concludes.
Despite not having a warhorse, Zodd’s inherent power compensates for this absence. He remains a formidable force on his own, and like Wyald, Zodd is unaffected by Femto orbs in this mode, contributing to his resilience in battle.
Schierke Build
Schierke possesses a highly potent frenzy mode, making it a top priority to activate it as frequently as possible for maximum effectiveness. Despite the anticipation, her final outfit unlock doesn’t seem to enhance her magic speed or grant access to the powerful spells exclusive to her frenzy mode, proving somewhat disappointing.
Schierke’s repertoire includes various combos combining the elements of water, fire, wind, and earth. To build up frenzy when off the horse, a simple regular attack (X) spam is effective, typically generating frenzy quickly.
While Schierke can be played technically, stringing together multiple combos in her frenzy mode, a simpler approach is heavy attack (Y) spam. This move shatters the ground below the enemy, dropping a boulder that explodes afterward. The attack is advantageous, providing a chance for both the ground shatter and boulder explosion to stun. It serves as a ranged attack dealing substantial damage, particularly useful against Femto, especially if you manage to stun him. Additionally, in frenzy mode, many attacks won’t interrupt your spell-casting as they would in regular mode, making the Femto orbs less threatening.
Despite not having a transformation, Schierke retains the ability to summon a warhorse, even with the unlockable outfit.
Serpico Build
Serpico, a skilled swordsman, relies heavily on regular attacks (X), although he does possess a piercing heavy attack (Y). Most of the time, his regular attack spam in frenzy mode proves effective for dealing with enemies.
With his new outfit, Serpico gains the ability to infinite combo if executed correctly. This means he can start a new combo relatively quickly after finishing his regular (X) combo, reducing the pause time.
Serpico’s final blow (B) is noteworthy, especially when paired with stunning from a series of regular (X) attacks and concluding with a heavy (Y) attack in his frenzy mode. Against Femto, I used the final blow as a combo starter to evade attacks and inflict decent damage. During boss battles, positioning behind the boss seemed to yield more damage and facilitate easier stuns, although this observation might be subjective. In his frenzy mode, Serpico can swiftly attack through Femto orbs by spamming hard enough. Notably, even in his final unlockable outfit, he retains the ability to call his warhorse due to the absence of a transformation.
Judeau Build
Judeau, characterized by remarkable speed, excels in chaining multiple regular (X) attacks, often concluding with heavy (Y) attacks.
His outfit, as observed, enhances combo breaks, potentially adding to damage and defense (though this might be placebo). Essentially, the already fast character becomes even swifter, amplifying his effectiveness.
For Judeau, a typical strategy involves regular attack (X) spam, often around 7 times, concluding with a heavy attack (Y) that adds a kick for a chance to stun. However, ending with the kick extends the time before he starts another combo. Similar to Serpico, positioning behind bosses or utilizing wall traps while spamming regular (X) attacks yields significant damage. Judeau’s speed and quick dashes prove valuable in maneuvering during battles.
Utilizing his frenzy and final blow (B) becomes essential due to his initially lower attack power. Fortunately, Judeau rapidly builds up his frenzy gauge owing to the multitude of attacks he executes. In frenzy mode, Femto orbs can seemingly be ignored or dodged, allowing for impressive combos with potential stuns using his final blow (B). Notably, without a transformation, Judeau retains the ability to call his warhorse.
Despite initial concerns about Judeau’s effectiveness against Femto and other bosses, his speed and combo chains pleasantly surprised, making him a formidable and agile character.
Casca Build
Casca proves to be a challenging character to master in the game. Her lack of speed, limited effective combos against bosses, and a somewhat underwhelming final blow (B) make her one of the more difficult characters to use.
Her singular effective attack against bosses is heavy attack (Y) spam, as her other attacks are not as impactful. Casca is one of the few characters who can be overrun by small regular enemies and may get caught in a stun lock. Furthermore, she is susceptible to being stun-locked in her frenzy mode, including by Femto orbs, which will stun her even if she’s attacking.
Against bosses like Femto, the recommended strategy is to employ the horse strategy, filling up the frenzy gauge while dodging and spamming heavy attack (Y). The goal is to stay behind the boss while avoiding Femto orbs. Attempts to use Puck Spark for stunning may be hit or miss, and her sub weapon attacks are generally not effective for stunning.
The Femto fight with Casca can be challenging, often resulting in a coin toss between successfully damaging Femto or enduring his combos across the map. Casca cannot afford to be touched by any attack, as it would result in minimal damage. Even her final blow (B) lacks substantial impact. As she lacks a transformation, Casca can summon a warhorse, but it’s notable that she is the only character tested to consistently get hard stunned by Femto orbs, even in frenzy mode. This makes the final fight particularly grueling, and players may find themselves spending a considerable amount of time on it.
Griffith Hybrid Femto Build
Griffith has multiple modes, but the focus here is on the hybrid and permanent Femto builds, which are considered the most enjoyable. The hybrid Femto outfit can be unlocked before completing any desires with Griffith, so it’s advisable to tackle his run after finishing other characters’ runs.
In regular Griffith mode, two main attacks are effective. The first involves a simple heavy attack (Y) hold, where he turns around and stabs enemies behind him multiple times. The second is a combination of a regular attack (X + 4) followed by heavy attack (Y) spam, initiating four initial regular attacks and several dashing heavy attacks effective against various enemies.
However, the real highlight is transforming Griffith into Femto, unleashing an incredible amount of damage. In the hybrid mode, Griffith maintains his regular appearance but gains a transformation once his final blow gauge fills up, which can be unlocked by completing 80% of the Eclipse desires.
Femto’s attacks are described as broken and incredibly fun, reminiscent of the final boss but without the annoying Femto orbs. Notable moves include a regular attack (X) spam, featuring a cape attack, dive attack, dimension wall, and tornado, dealing significant damage and clearing out smaller enemies. Additionally, Femto possesses a powerful heavy attack (Y) spam that can stun-lock nearly every enemy, including the final boss Femto. By spamming heavy attack (Y), a big ball is created, exploding for massive damage and pulling enemies towards you, essentially guaranteeing a stun. Against high-health enemies, repeating this heavy attack (Y) spam can rapidly deplete their health bars.
Femto is immune to other Femto orbs, and although he can’t summon his warhorse due to the transformation, he remains exceptionally powerful and enjoyable to use, effortlessly obliterating any foe.
