Velonaceps Calyx, also known as the “Husk Infection,” is a parasite that can be deadly if mishandled in Barotrauma. But don’t worry, dealing with it is actually quite simple.
WARNING: This guide contains spoilers, so proceed with caution.
Antibiotics
Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics are a cheap and easy solution for the Husk infection. They give you the “Husk Resistance” effect, which slows down the parasite’s growth.
However, these antibiotics aren’t great at reducing the infection itself. You’ll need a high medical skill to effectively decrease the infection. It’s best to use them right after getting infected and be prepared to administer Morphine later to deal with organ damage.
Calyxanide
Calyxanide is a powerful option for completely killing the Husk parasite. If used by someone inexperienced, it may have a reduced effect and require another dose or Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics.
While Calyxanide is effective, it can be expensive to buy and make. It can also be used as a weapon against Husks, causing major internal damage when applied.
Other ways
If you don’t have Antibiotics or Calyxanide, you’ll have to get creative to stop the parasite from spreading.
Weapons
If the infection is still in its early stages, you can use weapons to eliminate the threat. This method can also be used when the Husk has taken over the host.
Medical Clinic
If you can dock at a non-abandoned station, you can seek help from the Outpost Doctor (identified by a red bubble with a medic cross) in exchange for money. They can heal the Husk infection.
Husk Genes
Using a Gene Splicer with a Husk Gene can prevent the infection from reaching a point of no return.
Zealot Robes
Wearing Zealot Robes will prevent the Husk parasite from taking over the host and protect you from Husk attacks.
