Introduction
In Wandering Sword, one of the things I really like is how many characters there are. There are over 600 non-player characters (npc) in the game, and many of them have unique names and even some background stories. This makes the game world feel more real and immersive.
But I have a little problem – I find it hard to remember all the names and which faction each character belongs to. Sometimes, the names like Zhang, Zhan, Wuxin, and Wuxing all start to blend together in my mind.
To help with this, I started making a chart to keep track of who is who, who serves as someone’s disciple or henchman, and so on. As you can imagine, this chart got really complicated! So, I decided to simplify it by only including the characters who are part of significant groups or have a big impact on the story.
I also added comments about each character to remind me of who they are and what they did in the game. I’ll be including these comments along with the characters, even though it might make me cringe a bit. If you’re worried about spoilers, check the next section.

Some additional mentions that aren’t included in the chart are as follows:
- Tianjian Sect: It seems to have minimal relevance, except for a single comment from Master Daomiao in relation to Yuanqi’s backstory. It’s possible that it might be part of DLC or cut content.
- The Western Sect Banana Gang: They play a very minor role in a side quest.
- The Pirate/Bandit Gallery: They also have minor roles in various side quests, except for characters like Shipwreck Clam and Seaperil Dragon, who might have a bit more significance.
- The Misty Swordsman: This character seems to be irrelevant, and the grind associated with them is reportedly horrendous.
- The Goons: It’s noted that most, if not all, factions have numerous unnamed or irrelevant characters, which is why they are not included in the chart to avoid unnecessary clutter.
