There are several methods for obtaining a plastic key, but this is the safest and simplest. This guide is for The Escapists 2, however, it should work for The Escapists 1 as well.
Getting Started
Please remember not to keep the real key. If a guard finds that their key is stolen, the prison will be put on lockdown, and the guard dogs will follow you down (guard dogs cannot be killed), so you must create a PLASTIC key.
Increase your intelligence to 50 before proceeding (or higher).
You will need the following ingredients:
- Tub of Talcum Powder
- Toothpaste
- Lighter
- Comb OR Toothbrush (whichever one you find first)
- A strong weapon (attack damage should be AT LEAST Medium)
Craft the Tub of Talcum Powder and Toothpaste into a Wad of Putty.
Craft the Lighter and Comb OR Toothbrush into Molten Plastic.
Craft some Plated Armor and a weapon with High or Very High attack damage to boost your chances of avoiding being killed.
Searching for the Needed Key
There are several keys in the game, each of which unlocks a different door.
- Red keys grant entry to areas that are normally restricted to Guards Only!
- Cyan keys provide access to areas that aren’t critical but can be useful in some institutions.
- During Lights Out, Purple keys allow access through Purple doors; Purple doors are one-way doors.
- During Lights Out, yellow keys allow access via Cell doors.
- Green keys allow access via job area doors, which can be beneficial if you need to get into a job room but don’t have that job.
To find the key you’re looking for, take out several guards and search their pockets.
Take note: if you take the key, you will DIE!
Every time you do this, the guard’s key will appear on the map, allowing you to readily recall who has which key.
The Fun Part
Make sure you have the Wad of Putty with you before proceeding!
Find the guard who has the key you’re looking for and hit them.
Then lure them away from the hospital.
Finally, knock them out.
Look quickly in the guard’s pockets for the key and take it.
Make a Wad of Putty and a Key together.
You have now obtained the Key Mould!
NOW REPLACE THE KEY IN THE GUARD’S POCKETS BEFORE SENDING THEM TO THE INFIRMARY!
If the Guard is sent to the hospital before you replace the key, drop it on the ground by pressing the TAB key on your keyboard, then hovering your mouse over the key and right-clicking on it.
Hide in the nearest locker now (or anywhere where there are no guards) until your heat level reaches 60 degrees Fahrenheit or less.
Crafting the Plastic Key
Make the Plastic Key by combining the Key Mould and Molten Plastic!
Other vital information:
- Each plastic key has a ten-use limit, which means you can only get through each door ten times before the key breaks.
- Make sure to keep the Plastic Key in your desk’s Hidden Compartment, as you do not want to lose it.
