A tutorial on how to access the secret level, Hidden Palace Zone, in Sonic 2.
If you are already at Mystic Cave Zone Act 2, you can skip to the next section!
Go to Sonic 2 in Anniversary mode (not sure if Classic mode works for this?)
Once you are on the title screen, wait until the “press button” text appears, then do the following code: Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right.
You should hear a ring sound effect if you did it right. Once that’s that, press any button to access the level select.
As you can see, Hidden Palace Zone is just right here!… and not playable. Trying to access it will end up with nothing but failure. SO, let’s jump straight into Mystic Cave Zone Act 2! Don’t worry, it won’t be too hard to find your way to Hidden Palace Zone.
Finding Hidden Palace Zone!
If you’ve played Sonic 2 before, you’re probably aware of the classic spike pit from the level. That’s literally where you find Hidden Palace, all the way down there! But, if you don’t know where the spike pit is, let me guide you through. If you want a video tutorial instead (which I recommend, as it is easier to follow), I made one right here:
Focus on going the route all the way down in Mystic Cave. Keep going, and don’t bother taking ANY upper paths by any means. Eventually, you’ll come across this area:
You’ll notice how much this area stands out, since there are no spikes in the pit. Jump down there, and do NOT pull the blue lever. You’ll see Sonic’s sprite turning to his hurt one, and then… Hidden Palace Zone!
