Collect seven special objects of power to restore the Aurelian Empire!

Introduction

Mission Four in the Barony of Loth campaign is called “An Empress’s Hope,” and it’s a bit different from the previous scenarios. Instead of the usual victory conditions, this one involves collecting special objects known as Beacons of Power. You’ll come across an intact Beacon of Power at the beginning of the mission. Here’s my step-by-step guide on how I completed this mission. Keep in mind that there are various ways to achieve victory, and your approach is valid too!

Now, let’s break it down into a list of pointers to consider.

Walkthrough

Beginning

• At the beginning of the mission, you’ll take control of Brother Hillar after he and Magnolia Silverlink faced defeat in the second mission of the Rana campaign. Follow the path until you reach the first intact Beacon of Power.
• Once Magnolia becomes available, make her your main hero. Gather all your troops, including the rats, and move them to her.
• On the map, you’ll find two Baryan settlements. There’s a small one to the north of the beacon and a larger one to the northwest, which we’ll call the big city. Take control of the big city with Magnolia.

Build Up

• When you capture the big city, your main job is to fill all your troop slots with better troops and make sure you don’t lose them. This will help you later when you try to take the Beacons of Power because it’s tough to replace lost troops.
• Here are the important things to do: (1) Make and improve one of the Tier Two buildings and (2) Build and improve the Summoning Circle for the High Legions. You can also have a rat warren to help Hillar.
• Ambertina shows up on the western side of the map. First, get all the resources and buffs in the west before fighting any enemies or taking the closest small settlement. Try not to lose Ambertina’s troops, especially if you decide to build a Laboratory or Mausoleum in the big city.
• You’ll meet other wielders, but it’s not a good idea to fight them, especially the Rana. If your wielder has a lot of troops (around Command 5 or more), they will leave you alone. Just focus on keeping your big city safe and capture Beacons of Power and watchtowers/farseer’s vessels when no one’s around.
• Use the Beacons of Power you control to outsmart enemy wielders. Once you get good at this, you can take more risks exploring the map.

Break Out

• When Magnolia, Hillar, and Ambertina have all their good troops, the enemy wielders will probably come to the center.
• Now, it’s time to get the remaining Beacons of Power.
• Send one wielder to the Baryan spawn point in the northwest.
• Send the second one to the north-northeastern part of the map.
• Move the third wielder to the east.
• Along the way, take settlements if they’re empty to distract enemy wielders. If you don’t lose too many troops, they won’t fight you.
• Someone might try to take the big city. Let them take it. It’s a small price to pay to rebuild Aurelia’s Empire. Just be sure you have other settlements!
