Throughout Rain world, there are markings left by the Scavengers, that you can use to your advantage.

Scavenger Stash

Scavenger stashes hold explosives, pearls, which can be traded to scavengers and used to pass through tolls, and explosive spears

Scavengers do not take kindly to being stolen from though, so be careful.

Vultures are common in the following area.

Rain deer in the following area.

Ingame:

Ghost mark

Echo in the following area. Echoes are Ancients who failed to ascend in the void, they raise your max karma after speaking with them and prevent most enemies from spawning or moving when nearby.

Other markings

Other scavenger markings signify nothing exept for the fact that scavengers or scavenger bases/structures are around. They can lead you to finding scavenger caves/stashes, merchants, tolls etc. though.
