This guide can help all survivors to find anything they like in the wild, with me Adept, the most “adept” at foraging and survival in the wild. Alright, enough of that cringe-fest, I made this guide because I wasn’t able to find any guides regarding the new foraging system, so I made one.

Foraging Basics

Unlike before, foraging now needs to be done on the move, depending on where you are, you will find all types of stuff.

By pressing the “end” button you can bring up the search mode, with this a little box will appear containing information regarding the area and the amount of resources in said area.

In there you will see a few buttons, the “enable search mode” and “no search focus”, you start with two search focuses always, which are “Stones” and “Firewood”, other focuses come with professions, traits, and your forager skill.

Even if you select something as your focus it doesn’t mean other stuff won’t appear, I believe it only increases the chance of finding your focus and not excluding other stuff.

That’s all the buttons, but there are still two things, the vision effectiveness and tips, the tips are useless at this current point, but the vision effectiveness on the other hand is super important, check the next section for more on that!

Search Mode Effects

Enabling search mode will blur out the screen depending on your traits, profession, weather, time of day, and clothing.

you might have a bigger chance of finding certain stuff depending on your traits and profession.

Head gear has a big effect on foraging look at this example while wearing and not wearing a hockey mask:

It’s a 20% difference!

There are other ways to affect your chance of finding stuff, mainly crouching and aiming, as you can see:

Crouching gives a +10% bonus and aiming gives a +30% bonus! You can only have one at a time.

Locations

Depending on your location you may find more or less of certain things.

There are 6 known areas which are:

Nothing here

Vegetation

Forest

Road

Urban Area

Farmland
