This guide will show you how to easily unlock and get the No Straight Roads Encore Edition achievement called “Master Yourself, Master the Enemy.”

Overview

In simple terms, the way you defend yourself in this game isn’t always consistent. Sometimes, you have to block after the attack hits you, and other times, you need to block before it lands. I want people who want to complete everything in the game but have difficulties with their senses or movements to have an easier time.

If you’re really struggling with this achievement and can’t manage it, even with this approach, please send me a private message. I don’t want to mention external help sources openly and risk problems on Steam, but I’m willing to share info privately.

Basic Info

Are you someone who loves completing everything in a game but finds the Perfect Parry mode too hard? Well, there’s a way to make it much easier.

As of October 22, 2023, if you play each boss in Perfect Parry mode with the Rehearsal Pass, and then complete a boss in the same mode without it, you’ll unlock the achievement. I’m not sure if this is something the game developers intended, but using this method can make getting the achievement much simpler.

If you prefer not to use these kinds of tricks, you can practice Perfect Parry mode with the pass until you know each boss really well, and then try completing it without the pass.

Detailed Info

  1. Go to Zuke’s workshop in the sewers and equip the Rehearsal Pass sticker. It lets you fight the bosses without taking damage, but you won’t earn fans or rank. Don’t worry about that for now.
  2. Beat all the bosses in Perfect Parry mode with the Rehearsal Pass enabled. You’ll know it’s on when you see “OFF AIR” at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Be really careful during Yinu’s fight. Towards the end, she’ll start throwing triplets at you. If you get hit once, it’s game over. Watch a video guide or keep practicing on easier difficulties until you can dodge them perfectly.
  4. After defeating all the bosses, you won’t get a trophy. Don’t worry; that’s normal.
  5. Pick a boss you’re really familiar with and beat it in Perfect Parry mode after removing the Rehearsal Pass sticker. I’d suggest choosing a boss with a balance of parrying and melee combat so that even if you miss a parry or get hit, you can quickly regain health.
  6. Some tips for fighting EVE (since I got the achievement with her): In the first phase, keep hitting the disembodied hands to maintain your combo and health. In the second and third phases, when the eyes on the wall open, don’t move. Stay still, and the room won’t flip or throw projectiles at you. Use the dodge move when the hand is tossing projectiles, and when the foot is about to stomp, move slightly so it doesn’t hit you, but you can still parry it.

Conclusion

I’m not sure if the game developers intended for this trick or not, but if you’re aiming for 100% completion and Parry Mode is driving you crazy, it might be a good idea to use this method while it works. Remember, games should be about having FUN more than anything else. If a game is becoming too frustrating for you, but you still want to collect every achievement, it’s totally okay to use methods that make the gaming experience more enjoyable for you.
