Lang verhaal kort, 343 decided that a chat filter was in order for Halo Infinite, and gave no in game method to disable it.
This is just incredibly annoying for numerous reasons, the biggest being that the chat filter is also pretty dumb, and will sometimes censor non swear words (I’ve had it censor “Leuk” before).
Gelukkig, there is a method to disable this chat filter, and all it requires is a bit of your time. Thanks to marcopolo444 on Reddit for this method, I’m hoping this guide will make the solution more widespread.
The Steps
1). Eerst, access your local app data by pressing WIN+R and type %localappdata%, then hit enter.
2). Look for the HaloInfinite folder, open it up and go to Settings, and then find the SpecControlSettings.json file. This is what you want.
3). Open the file using notepad, and look for the area labeled “text_chat_filter_enabled”. Van hier, look for the option that says “Value” with the number 1. Change this number to 0, then hit save and close the file.
4). ENJOY. This is literally all you need to do. No sketchy file downloads, no pleading with 343 to fix their stupid game, enz. The file is used to change game settings to suit your own personal needs, and others on youtube have used it to change their FPS and stuff, so its perfectly safe. The only downside is that unless others have also done this to their SpecControlSettings, then they will not see you cursing at them.
Hopefully this guide was helpful. I find that censorship in any capacity is a terrible thing, especially in a game that has a history of smack talk and banter.
