This guide will show you some of the most valuable tips and tricks for new Next King players.
General Gameplay
Exploring in the game is super fun because you click to move around, and it’s like an adventure. But there are some things I wish I knew before starting.
- The white gates in the “unlimited corridor” lead to different parts of the castle. I suggest checking out the castle first before diving into other worlds. You can explore in any order you want, but it’s probably best to save the upper section for last because the puzzles there build on earlier ones.
- Making sure your character’s accuracy stat is high is really important. In the World of Joy, you can find a Bronze Spyglass that could come in handy, and there’s at least one more somewhere else.
- The Guardians you encounter have set levels, but their minions don’t.
- There are eight Guardians and nine guiding hands in total. The big Guardian you meet is actually just a regular one, but it’s extra strong.
- Not all the white gates in the “unlimited corridor” connect to each other, so be mindful of that.
- Throughout the castle, you can find items that weaken each of the Arbiters carried by human characters. However, the one for your own element might be missing.
Items
- Blue Hearts are super valuable drops because they’re used to make the Revive equivalent. Coagulant is also really important as it’s used in all sorts of key items. Then there’s Aquila/Lyra/Cygnus, which are used for making glowing emblem key items. Lastly, Wooden Keys are handy for opening treasure chests.
- You gotta have those glowing emblem key items to move forward in World of Anxiety.
- Some throwables might seem useless, but sometimes you gotta deal damage even if your accuracy isn’t great.
- In the infinite corridor, there are key items that become really useful when you collect all three.
Monsters
- When it comes to recruiting monsters, it’s all about luck—if you’ve got the right color, you might get lucky.
- To make the most of your energy restores, consider building a team that’s missing one energy type. That way, when you restore energy of that color, it’s extra valuable.
- Take a close look at how much energy a monster generates on its turn and how often it can attack. This info can help you build a strong team strategy.
Bosses (spoilers)
- The top three toughest bosses in my experience were the Arbiter of Relief, who’s incredibly tough to hit, the Arbiter of Disgust, who drains your energy and can instantly kill you, and the massive tower guardian, who has an area-of-effect instant-kill move and requires Dodge SD to stand a chance. By this point, you should have unlocked the special monster in the tower, determined by whether you found the G note for Guillotine or the L note for Luxury, and you should also have special items from the Blacksmith.
- Special shout-outs to the Arbiter of Joy, who counterattacks, and the Arbiter of Calm, who can heal themselves. Even though I was pretty overpowered by the time I faced them, they’re still worth keeping an eye on.
