This guide will show you, how Rain has evolved visually across the Mortal Kombat games since his first appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Introduction

Rain is an Edenian prince and demi-god. He is a son of Edenian god Argus. His mother was a mortal woman called Amara. Rain was born out of wedlock and has two brothers, Taven and Daegon. He grew up among the peasants because his father gave up on him as he was born out of affairs. His main goal is to claim Edenian throne to himself, become Edenia’s protector and avenge the death of his mother caused by his Father.

Rain’s powers allow him to control the weather, use water as a weapon against his opponents and summon lighting strikes. He was first time introduced as a playable character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and was present in 8 different MK games (MK3, UMK3, MK Trilogy, MK Deception, MK Armageddon, MK 9, MK X, and MK 11)(9 if you count mortal kombat mobile). In this guide, we’ll go through his appearance in all of the 8 games.

Rain’s appearance has evolved substantially since UMK3. From an ordinary color swap of a male ninja model to a unique, well-developed character with many signature visual features such as his Katar in MK11. The biggest jump in design is in my opinion between MK X and MK 11, as Rain became Indian inspired character, utilizing Indian weapons and wearing robes fitting tropical Indian climate. His skin variety has also increased across the games. Which Rain skin is your favorite and how would you like him to look in the future MK installments? Let me know in the comments!
