This guide will be showing you several methods on how to craft items, including the simple crafting method, smelting, refining, and blasting in Expansion Core.

Simple Crafting

To start creating items, open the crafting menu (usually accessed by pressing ‘Tab’, ‘I’, or ‘C’). This will display all the available recipes. Click on a recipe to see the materials needed for it. If you have these materials in your inventory, you’ll be able to click the Craft button.

Smelting

Smelting means transforming one item into another by heating it. Furnaces can be found in various types: Structures, Allies, and Modules. The first furnaces available are the Small Furnace in the Structure tab or the Small Furnace Module, which can be added to the Mobile Base.

Once you have a furnace, move the item you want to heat into it (you can use ‘T’ as a shortcut), and add some fuel (shortcut ‘F’). Many different items can serve as fuel. Below is a list of recipes currently present in the game.

Recipes:

  • Logs -> Charcoal
  • Copper Ore -> Copper Bar
  • Iron Ore -> Iron Bar
  • Scrap Metal -> Copper Bar
  • Armor Plate -> Iron Bar

Fuels:

  • Branches, Logs, Charcoal, Coal, Scorched Wood, Energy Fragments, Refined Energy and Crystal Shards.

Blasting

Blasting stands as an advanced technique for merging two items using intense heat. Within the game, there exist only two approaches to perform blasting: utilizing a researchable structure or discovering a distinct blueprint within the game world. Notably, the fuel utilized in the blasting furnace is identical to that of a standard furnace.

When equipped with a blasting method, the process closely resembles smelting, wherein a fuel source and a recipe are prerequisites.

There is currently only one recipe in-game:

  • Iron Bar + Coal -> Steel Bar

Refining

Refining stands as an advanced technique for transforming items in the game. This process occurs within a refinery, with the Small Refinery structure being the sole option at present. You can acquire this structure through research. Similar to a furnace, the refinery operates by consuming fuel.

The current recipes for the refinery are as follows:

  • Energy Fragment + Energy Fragment = Refined Energy
  • Refined Energy + Refined Energy = Crystal Shard
  • Coal + Energy Fragment = Refined Carbon
  • Unrefined Oil + Ice Crystal = Refined Oil
  • Frostbark + Frostbark = Ice Crystal
