Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition – Anti-Crash and DLC Fix

For the Steam version of Dragon Age: Origins, there are some inherent issues that can affect the gameplay experience. As this game holds a special place among my favorites, I have created this guide for my personal convenience. While there are other existing guides that address these issues, I wanted to have a reference that is easily accessible for myself. If you happen to come across this guide as well, I sincerely hope it proves helpful to you too! The instructions provided here will resolve DLC-related problems and enhance the game’s performance by utilizing a 4 gig executable file. This executable not only addresses various crashes but also greatly improves the modding experience.

Fixing the DLC

For many individuals, the DLCs are not automatically activated due to the discontinuation of the old EA servers. To manually enable the DLC, follow these steps: Navigate to Steam’s Dragon Age folder by selecting the ‘browse local files’ option. Then, locate and open the ‘redist’ folder within it. Activate the files DAUServiceSetup_Steam.exe and DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam.exe. Once completed, the DLC should be successfully registered and visible in the other campaigns section. Similarly, the new content within the main campaign should now be accessible.

4 Gig-patched .exe

To enhance game stability and enable modding capabilities, it is necessary to obtain a 4 gig patched .exe file. Fortunately, a reliable and virus-free version is conveniently provided through a Steam link. Download the file and replace your regular .exe in the “bin_ship” folder with it.

For your convenience, there is a linked 1.05 “daorigins.exe” file in this section, already patched with LAA (Large Address Aware). If you prefer to perform the LAA patch yourself, please refer to the “Do-It-Yourself” section in this Steam guide.

To access the compressed .zip folder containing the .exe file, use the following download link.

After extracting the downloaded file, move it to the following directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship\

Please note that the Steam overlay and all Steam-related features should continue to work without any issues after applying this fix. In case you encounter difficulties opening the Steam overlay while running the game, you can add the “daorigins.exe” file to Steam as a “non-Steam game” and launch the game through the “daorigins.exe” Steam shortcut.

DIY

If you prefer to personally apply the LAA patch to the “daorigins.exe” file, I’m happy to provide you with the necessary steps:

1. Begin by downloading the 1.05 version of “daorigins.exe” from the following link.
2. Additionally, obtain the LAA tool (the same tool mentioned in the previous section of this Steam guide) from this link.
3. Extract both downloaded .zip files, which will result in two files: “daorigins.exe” and “4gb_patch.exe”.
4. Move the “daorigins.exe” file to the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship\
5. Run the “4gb_patch.exe” file and navigate to the location of the “daorigins.exe” file that you just moved.
6. Once you’ve located the file, select it, and the patching process will be completed.

By following these steps, you will have successfully applied the LAA patch to the “daorigins.exe” file.
