This guide will be showing you the steps on how to get 100% achievements in Defunct. Note that this Defunct guide may contain spoilers of the game. Continue reading at your own risk.

Introduction

100% achievements can be done in three separate steps.

  • Step 1: Complete the game with all collectibles (~1-2 hours)
  • Step 2: Single session deathless (~30 minutes per run)
  • Step 3: Platinum time trials (skill dependant)

Collectibles Playthrough

Play through the game at your own pace following Rubhen925’s collectible locations video:

Though levels can be replayed at any time so you come back for the collectibles later if you prefer to play blind first.

Ooh! Secrets!
Find the secret spot in the level “Home”

All four secret spots in the game contain collectibles, so this is covered in Rubhen925’s collectible video as part of collectible #2.

More Secrets!
Find the secret spot in the level “Into the Woods”

All four secret spots in the game contain collectibles, so this is covered in Rubhen925’s collectible video as part of collectible #14.

El Dorado
Find the secret spot in the level “Oasis”

All four secret spots in the game contain collectibles, so this is covered in Rubhen925’s collectible video as part of collectible #35.

Left Behind
Find the secret spot in the level “Rock Bottom”

All four secret spots in the game contain collectibles, so this is covered in Rubhen925’s collectible video as part of collectible #37.

Tryhard Playthrough

Probably best to attempt this after completing the game.

Start a new game from the main menu and finish the whole game from start to finish without quitting or respawning. The new game option wont reset your collectibles or time trial progress. It just sends you to the opening cutscene.

This isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Only water and pits can kill you. Rails can be used to travel over a lot of pits, and for the most part you can go as slow as you want. There are only a handful of jumps in the game that will kill you if you go too slow.

One playthrough will take around 30 minutes.

Forest Fever
Complete the level “Into the Woods” without restarting or dying

Will unlock automatically while going for ‘Tryhard’.

Tryhard
Complete the story without dying or restarting in one session

Platinum Time Trials

Easily the most difficult section of the game. Rubhen925 has another video covering all 15 time trials.

Alternatively, you can follow the routes in the Plat Speedruns. These guys go much faster than the required time, so some of the precise jumps might not be replicable.

I felt the time trials got easier further into game since the boost replaces a lot of the precise Gravitizing required in the earlier trials.

Need for Speed
Solve the level “Junkyard” in less than 3 minutes

3 minutes is much more than the platinum time, so don’t worry about this one.

Too Easy!
Get bronze or higher in Time Trial on all maps

Pff! Is This All You Got?
Get silver or higher in Time Trial on all maps

Uh… Ehm…
Get gold or higher in Time Trial on all maps

Aah, Hell No!
Get platinum in Time Trial on all maps

Other Achievements

I Can Do Tricks?!
Perform a trick in the air

Picking up collectibles unlocks tricks. To perform a trick, press E (on keyboard) or X (on controller) while in the air. The trick performed is random.

Quick Trick
Perform 2 tricks in the air without touching the ground

Easily done on any map where you can get a lot of air time. The fans in the centre of Junkyard are a good choice.

Trickster
Perform every trick once

Only possible after unlocking the final trick for picking up all 40 collectibles. Start a time trial on Junkyard, jump in the fans in the centre of the map and spam the trick button to perform 3 or 4 tricks. Repeat until you perfom all 9 tricks.

K
You did it!

Easiest achievement in the game. Press K (on keyboard) while in game.

Survivor
Stay in the trash chute for more than 20 seconds

At the end of the first level ‘Home’, you will be long straight hallway after a cutscene. This is the trash chute. You are supposed to travel towards the camera and escape the trash, but drive towards the trash for as long as possible while avoiding the incoming trash.

Floor is Lava
Spend 5 seconds in the air without touching the ground

Not difficult. This will probably unlock automatically in normal gameplay. If not, the fans in the centre of Junkyard will easily send you flying for more than 5 seconds.

Height Fright
Jump 100 meters in the air

Again, this will probably unlock automatically in normal gameplay. If not, the fans in the centre of Junkyard should send you high enough.

Sonic Boom!
Reach max speed and keep it for 3 consecutive seconds

Another one which will likely unlock automatically from just playing. Probably possible on any level with long fast sections. I unlocked it on Back on Track, but Downhill, Dawn, and Crash Site are also fast levels.
