Basic Tactics
These are generally a few simple strategies to follow when playing in Teams.
To start off easy, treat every turn as if all the suggested THREAT ARROWS are true,
and AVOID any ARMED PAWNs carrying weapons as if they were VILLAINS.
This way you can practice your Pawn movement and spacing to treat each situation as if it were win/lose turns for every turn.
You want to mix and match positioning PAWNS around 3 spaces away from each other.
(Why exactly 3 Räume? This is because it ties into how Sherock AI Deduction game mechanic works)
To start off easy, practice moving PAWNs within a day/night cycle (3 dreht sich) to BEST optimize the MOST USELESS AI DEDUCTION results possible.
Such as,
Drehen 1 you can aggressively explore,
Drehen 2 you should be more conservative and watch where other PAWNs can move in relationship to their INDIVIDUAL THREAT ARROWS,
and be mindful how those THREAT ARROWS look compare it to your actual TARGET’s THREAT ARROWS.
by Turn 3 the THREAT ARROWS between each pairing of PAWNs should look identical to the distance between the pair of VILLAIN and TARGET pawns.
(yes this requires knowing how the Sherlock AI Deduction game mechanics works)
These are tactics that can be applied in any game mode or possibly any role, but written in the point-of-view of Team Sherlock.
throw a few early PAWNs to the edge of the map, if they aren’t TARGETs they can be defensive WITNESS protection later in game. And left alone to their own will to auto explore.
OR if they are TARGET or VILLAIN then they are buying you enough time to defend.
(I find this more ideal for 1v1 game mode as you have more control over the actions)
(This tactic is more of a concern for Team Moriarty than it is for Team Sherlock.)
Team Moriarty will have to plan ahead as the strategy they deploy is highly dependent on where on the ladder of the pecking order their VILLAIN and the TARGET is on.
The Pawn’s Turn Order is done by priority of how healthy they are, and then by alphabetical order.
The Pawns that move first will be able to reach an object before a slower pawn down the pecking order.
This means if at the start of the match, the VILLAIN was assigned to PAWN A then they have a better chance of getting all the items before anyone else. A ‚headstart‘ Vorteil.
Vice versa if the VILLAIN was assigned to PAWN F (the very last pawn) then they have a major disadvantage, as there are 5 other pawns before them that take priority before their action occurs.
Team Moriarty will have to plan ahead as the strategy they deploy is highly dependent on where on the ladder of the pecking order their VILLAIN and the TARGET is on.
Such as if the VILLAIN is dead last as PAWN F, then Team Moriarty might want to start deploying the Status Ailments Tactics of Hunger and Injury early on, thus pushing their VILLAIN up the pecking order.
For Team Sherlock worrying about the pecking order is more of a mid-game issue, when they start eliminating who the VILLAINs and TARGETs PAWN suspects are.
This is why you see a lot of matches where players pick PAWN A for Turn 1 regardless if it is conflicting actions with everyone else.
Advanced Tactics
In Team games (3v1, 2v2, 2v1) you NEED to COMMUNICATE in order to be successful. Because CONFLICTING ACTIONS can end a match.
While this section is generally written in context for Team Sherlock & Watson in a 2v2 match,
it can still be applied to Team Moriarty and other game modes by just flipping around what your objective is.
- Watson can have a possibility of getting new INTEL on FOOD locations each turn.
- Sherlock can move 3 Zu 1 PAWNS (depending on game mode)
- Watson can move 1 PAWN
- Irene functions ideally as an IMPOSTER looking like Watson
- Moriarty can move 2 PAWNS
- Irene can move 1 PAWN, but her actions can’t reveal a CONFLICT as a NON-TARGET
Sherlock plays deduce by controlling PAWNS to try to eliminate as many possible TARGETs at the same time positioning them for AI DEDUCTION at the end of a day/night cycle (jeder 3 dreht sich)
Watson plays SCAVENGER by securing FOOD supplies while avoiding picking up an early weapon, as anyone can be the VILLAIN and you don’t want to make an early mistake by chance.
(NOTIZ: Du’re much more likely to pick up a weapon than a note, secret passageway, or fuse box.
This is because everyone is likely going for food they see first, that’s around 2~6 food nodes gone immediately.)
41 total nodes revealed at the beginning of the round, and Moriarty sees the following;
- 17 green food nodes
- 14 red weapon nodes
- 10 orange nodes
While the chances are very slim to lose in DAY 1, it still can happen… if everyone follows this rule, dann ist es’ll be more obvious if a PAWN picks up a WEAPON early game, Es’ll be either Team Moriarty trying to arm their VILLAIN (as they can see where the weapons are) or just a random PAWN exploring.
Both Sherlock and Watson should be avoiding HAZARDS that are spawning during mid game. Gleichzeitig, if anyone is suffering from HUNGER on Day 2 AND finds food by chance. DO NOT ALLOW the HUNGRY PAWN eat within the SAME DAY 2.
Force them to wait until DAY 3 to eat, as this will ensure they are WELL FED on DAY 3, and not suffering from 1x HUNGER.
Sherlock plays DEFENSIVE by positioning PAWNS to be WITNESS protection, as he can control more PAWNS than Watson
Watson controls the TARGET to try to move away from the VILLAIN
If there are still MULTIPLE TARGETS during the end game, then everyone should try to pick those PAWNS.
WATSON should still CONTROL the MOST LIKELY TARGET pawn, because Team Moriarty CAN NOT control the TARGET.
While SHERLOCK plays WITNESS DEFENSE
If everyone is playing as Sherlock in a 3v1 match, then designate only ONE player to CONTROL the TARGET.
NOTIZ: Communication is KEY for these teamwork strategies to be executed.
Otherwise your CONFLICTING ACTIONS will lead to an early grave.
Beispiel – Gameplay Theory
This is an example of an actual 2v2 match.
Try to deduce what actions you might apply to which PAWNs in order to have the best outcome for your team.
For the sake of continuity and easy reading, I’ll be writing it in the point-of-view of Team Sherlock.
Here is the given an END GAME situation.
It is night time, near the end of Day 2 moving to Day 3.
Health Status
- PAWNs A B C & F are healthy.
(max movement 3) - PAWNs B D & E are suffering 1x Status Ailment of HUNGER
(max movement 2)
Surplus Food
- PAWN D has surplus food
Villain Status
- PAWNs C D & E are suspected VILLAINs
- PAWN D is ARMED
Target Status
- PAWN A & E are the suspected TARGETs
Witness Status
- PAWNs B & F are completely cleared of being either a TARGET or VILLAIN
The situation here is the TARGET, PAWN E is at risk. Surrounded by VILLAINs.
PAWN A is safe with a WITNESS, PAWN F defending them as well.
What would you move if you were Sherlock with 3 Aktionen?
What would you move if you were Watson with 1 Aktion?
Ideal, I want to defend PAWN E as much as possible.
Jedoch, keep in mind that Team Moriarty has a maximum of 3 moves that can CONFLICT with your Team’s 4 bewegt sich.
Also, it is best to optimized moving all 4 moves into defending PAWN E to insure they don’t die next turn.
PAWNs C & D are possible VILLAINs, but they BOTH can’t be VILLAINs.
This means moving PAWNs B, C & D into the same room as PAWN E.
While trying, or in this case hoping, the PAWNs A & F will move up towards the middle of the map.
It is possible to leave it to chance that Team Moriarty won’t attack this turn and just move PAWNs C & D into some other location, but that is a risk I was not willing to take.
I had to convey this to my Teammate Watson.
Watson wanted to move PAWN B into the big room to the right east-side.
I communicated with „NEIN“ on his request, and pinged to gather inside the small room where all PAWNS B, C, D & E can reach to.
Ideal, I wanted Watson to control PAWN E, telling me where he is going to move the TARGET that is most at risk, thus allowing me as Sherlock us my 3 actions to defend that TARGET.
Stattdessen, I have to predict where Watson feels like moving a DEFENSIVE PAWN, which you can see is my downfall in the next turn.
Here is the new layout for the next turn.
Team Moriarty moved their possible VILLAIN PAWNs C & D, this conflicted with my actions.
PAWNs B & E managed to reach the same room.
PAWN A stood still and PAWN F moved into the middle starting room.
What would you move if you were Sherlock with 3 Aktionen?
What would you move if you were Watson with 1 Aktion?
I needed to ensure the TARGET PAWN E gets out safely by moving together with his WITNESS protection pawns, while bringing up the PAWNs A & F into the protection circle.
This ideally means everyone heads towards the top left corner of the middle big room. Since everyone can reach it, would be the safest move.
Jedoch, doing so won’t allow me to survive the starvation in the coming turns. There is still loot in the small room where B & E are standing in. If PAWN F reaches us, it would be protected.
And I would NOT SURVIVE the last chance chase if Moriarty started the Assail after Day 3.
Watson wanted to move PAWN F, but does not tell me to what location.
I can not tell whether Watson is going into the small room where PAWN E is, or somewhere else.
I signal that I’m moving PAWN A up to the top-left corner of the middle room.
Jedoch, I could not decide where to move PAWNs B & E to match up with where Watson is moving PAWN F.
Team Moriarty has 3 bewegt sich. They are definitely moving either PAWNs C or D.
And most likely overriding PAWN B,
but for their 3rd action which override is occurring, PAWNs A or F?
(NOTIZ: The in-game communication does not allow you to directly suggest an order for a teammate. You can only suggest your own actions.)
Team Moriarty ended up choosing PAWNs B, C & D.
Moving the TRUE VILLAIN, PAWN D to attack PAWN E the TRUE TARGET.
PAWN E stayed and searched for food.
PAWN B was sent away, overriding my action.
PAWN C was sent away, no one on Team Sherlock was attempting to control it.
PAWN F moved into the L-shaped room.
PAWN A reached its location in the top-left of middle room.
