As many of you probably know, the Emperor on normal difficulty is not the hardest boss fight ever. Sure, you may lose a few lives, but no big deal, you have more robots to mind transfer to. Now, what if I told you that you had no extra lives during the fight. No more robots to mind transfer to. And the one weapon you have to defend yourself is a trashy spear. Welcome to Insane difficulty, my friend.

This in-depth guide will show you how even you can defeat Chapter 5 on Insane mode.

WARNING: You still need a decent amount of skill if you want to do this properly.

Preparation

If you want to have the upper hand in the battle against the Emperor, I would highly recommend you beat chapter 5 on normal, and hard mode before you attempt Insane mode. This will give you an idea of what you are up against and give you a chance to brush up on your fighting skills.

As you make your way through chapter 5 on Insane, you will end up in a long hallway before the emperor boss room. Surviving as a good robot in this part is absolutely crucial to your victory against the boss. A robot with a flame upgrade is recommended.

If you don’t make it out of the hallway with a robot that you are comfortable with playing as, you may either want to restart the chapter or exit the level and hit continue so you only have to restart the hallway portion.

First Form

Although you have mind transfers during this boss battle, this does not mean you should die. Your mind will get transferred to either a Spear1 robot or a Sword1 robot, which will make you’re run extremely hard in the second fight.

The first phase of the emperor has five attacks

  • Hammer Attack: The Emperor uses his hammer and pounds it on the ground at a nearby enemy. This can be dodged by moving out of the way in time, or getting close enough to him that the hammer is behind you.
  • Sword Attack: The Emperor swings his sword 2 times from each shoulder when an enemy gets close enough. This attack can be dodged by jumping over the sword when it gets close to the player or moving out of the reach of the attack.
  • Flame Breath: The Emperor bends downwards and chases an enemy with flame breath. This attack can be dodged by running out of range of the flames, or circling around the emperor, as they turn slightly slower when using this attack.
  • Leap: The Emperor jumps high in the air in pursuit of an enemy when they get too far out of range of other attacks. If an enemy is under the Emperor as they land, they will be killed or heavily damaged. This attack can be dodged by moving out of the way of where the Emperor is going to land.
  • Shockwave: The Emperor smashes both his sword and hammer together to create a shockwave, sending enemies flying backward. If the enemy is hit by the colliding weapons, they will be killed or heavily damaged. This attack can be dodged by predicting it in advance and moving far enough out of range of the shockwave.

If you fail to survive past the first phase of the Emperor and become a weak robot, leave the level and hit “continue chapter 5” in the menu. This will restart the fight without you losing your good robot.

Mind Space

After defeating the first form of the Emperor, you will be transported into mind space. You do not have to worry about dying here, as it will not affect your physical space robot. One (somewhat) good tip is that you should mentally prepare yourself for three spider-tron 7000’s and the final battle.

Second Form

After completing the mind space portion of the chapter, you will face off against the second form of the Emperor. This is by far the most difficult and intimidating boss fight in the game. This time, the Emperor is protected by a coat of armor, and has three small robots surrounding him, which repair his armor and get rid of arrows.

If you get annoyed with the Emperor’s extreme power, you can always take a break and continue the chapter later. You won’t lose progress.

The Second form Emperor has all of the same attacks as the first form, however, his sword and hammer are upgraded with two new attacks;

  • Laser Sword When the player is out of reach for most attacks, the Emperor will create a laser coming out of the sword and targeting the enemy. If an enemy is hit by this, it is almost always fatal. The way to dodge this is by turning 90º left or right from your current position and walking that way. The laser should be behind the player if they do this.
  • Hammer Arc When the Emperor’s hammer hits the ground, an arc of energy will erupt from the ground going towards the enemy’s direction. Upon impact, the enemy will be set ablaze by the projectile, and almost always be killed.

Now, the real grit of the operation: Beating the Emperor. The very first thing you should ALWAYS do in this fight destroys the robots orbiting the Emperor. If you fail to do this, the armor on the boss will be repaired, and any progress that you made in fighting them will be undone.

Once you take out the small robots, you must then dismantle the legs from the Emperor. Keep in mind that you have to take your time with this, and not rush in. Make sure to dodge all of the attacks and wait for a time when they are vulnerable.

Hopefully, once you are successful in destroying the legs you have the opportunity to dismantle the Emperor’s arms. Doing so will remove their weapons and make the only attack available for them flame breath. The hammer is the easier arm out of the two to destroy, which is the one you should go for first. Followed by the sword arm.

Finally, to finish the job and beat the chapter, remove the head of the Emperor, and cry tears of joy once you finally beat him.
