Different weapons can only reach certain distances and some units will not use the maximum range of their weapon. This is a concise guide that will allow you to better understand what a ‘safe distance’ is depending on what it is you are going up against.

Use your ‘T’ key to target units/buildings and have their distance from you displayed for reference.

Cannons

Sniper – 500m

Minigun and Chaingun – 120m

  • Turrets, Soldiers and CCA Gun Tower use a variant with 155m range.
  • The CCA GT detects up to 200m but won’t fire that far unless given SP, Blast or MAG.
  • Turrets will only fire up to 155m, even if given a weapon with longer range such as SP or Blast. (It is possible to remove this limitation by entering then exiting the Turret, then having a pilot get back in)
  • APCs can only drop Soldiers when 75m or closer to an enemy target.

AT-Stabber – 150m

  • The CRA Gun Tower uses a variant of the AT-Stabber with 200m range.

SP-Stabber – 200m

MAG Cannon – 300m to 190m

  • Higher charges increase damage but reduce the range, down to 190m for the final charge.

Flash Cannon – 90m

Blast Cannon – 300m

  • NSDF Gun Towers will only fire up to 200m.
  • Golems will only fire up to 200m unless on a Follow or Attack command.

Rockets

Shadower – 150m lock-on, expires after 480m

Hornet – 200m lock-on, expires after 370m

Comet – 300m lock-on, expires after 300m

TAG Cannon – 200m (tracer and salvo rounds)

Sandbag – 145m

Rocket Bomb – 300m

Mortars

Hard to say exactly, but you can reach 220m from just aiming up (out of the range of everything except Golems on Follow/Attack), and up to 300m by jumping and lobbing them at very high angles.

Howitzers use their own variant of the mortar with much further range, up to 570m if there is no elevation change between them and the target. If they are on a hill relative to the target, around 630m can be reached.

If Howitzers are given Mortar, they can range up to 220m and 260m if given an elevation advantage.

Pop Gun can lock onto targets within 100m.

Specials

Thumper – 250m

Prox Mine – 30m

M-Curtain can be used to extend the range of weapons by accelerating as soon as the effect begins. It is very awkward to aim like this but some experimentation may lead you to interesting and potentially useful results.

Addendum

The vast majority of units will only ‘notice’ and engage you when you get within 200m of them, an exception being the Turrets which only notice you once you get within 155m.

Because of this, it is possible to sit just beyond 200m of enemy targets and destroy them with mortar, or by firing Rocket Bomb within the 200 to 300m gap.
