Got round to making another one of these finally, this time for everyone’s favorite sentient carpet, Hush. As with the boss rush ranking, I’ll rank based on the difficulty and value of the unlock.
Isaac: Farting baby
Difficulty: 6/10
Isaac gets off fairly easy with a hush, what with all the free loot to reroll before fighting the man himself.
Unlock rating: C
not the worst thing to exist, but is outright outclassed by dump now and seems to only trigger once a century.
Maggy: Purity
Difficulty: 5/10
Health is something one needs a lot of going into this fight, and that is Maggy’s entire gimmick. -1 point for low starting speed though.
Unlock rating: C
Either profoundly useful or profoundly useless, because of course it decided to buff range.
Cain: D12
Difficulty: 6/10
The 4 gold chests pretty much guarantee access to the item rooms, though the low starting range and hp make it slightly harder.
Item rating: D
Every time I’ve picked up this item, it’s done absolutely nothing to help me. not that it has no uses, just that they’re highly situational.
Judas: Betrayal
Difficulty: 7/10
Book of Belial is decent, but low af starting health makes hush much harder than i’d think.
Item rating: B
Ironically, works best against hush, but is also pretty solid against general rooms.
???: Fate’s reward
Difficulty: 8/10
hope and pray that you get soul hearts on hush floor, or else you’re gonna have a bad time.
Item rating: C
If it had an actual fire rate, I’d rate it much more. otherwise just a low fire rate incubus
Eve: Athame
Difficulty: 6/10
either sacrifice a lot of damage or beat hush on soul’s hearts, pick your poison.
Item rating: A
Used to be mid, but now it’s outrageously powerful in bursts. broke hush’s boss armor with this before, pretty good.
Samson: Blind rage
Difficulty: 6/10
the fact that the floor is just hush makes bloody lust pretty bad, so basically just D6less Isaac.
Item rating: B
Boosted I frames are not to be slept on, though admittedly it is hard to notice quite immediately what it does.
Azazel: Maw of the void
Difficulty: 8/10
range ups are a near requirement. that or an absurd number of damage upgrades.
Item rating: A
low range, but really good damage. used to be flat-out overpowered, but is still solid.
Lazarus: Empty vessel
Difficulty: 6/10
extra life makes hush marginally easier, but it’s still no cake walk.
Item rating: D
only really ever does anything for soul heart characters, and even they don’t want to take devil deals.
Eden: Eden’s blessing
Difficulty: 7/10
the general low starting health makes this fight a bit questionable imo, but otherwise just kinda random.
Item rating: B
tears up is solid, but the main thing is that extra starting item. very nice.
The Lost: Sworn protector
Difficulty: 9/10
INTENSE SUFFERINGItem rating: B
an orbital that pulls in projectiles towards itself, and can occasionally spawn eternal hearts is pretty good, but i’m knocking this one down for being in the angel deal pool.
Lilith: Incubus
Difficulty: 7/10
no need to worry about getting blocked by rocks, but Lilith is still pretty annoying to play.
Item rating: S
i feel i don’t have to justify putting this as S tier, i mean, have you seen this thing in action?
The Keeper: Keeper holds a penny
Difficulty: 8/10
pretty difficult coz of the health cap, but there’s absolutely no reason to not be at full health when entering hush.
Unlock rating: D
yeah sure it makes Keeper much easier by giving him a health up, but it does literally nothing for all other characters.
Apollyon: Hushy
Difficulty: 6/10
same thing as Isaac, given they’re practically the same character but with different starting items.
Item rating: D
one of the most inconsequential familiars, even more so than brother bobby and sister maggy, who at least contribute to conjoined!
The Forgotten: Hallowed ground
Difficulty: 5/10
sticking as the soul for most of the fight and using the body as a shield can make this much easier.
Item rating: C
useful for the roughly 5 miliseconds you get in the aura before either enemy projectiles or your own tears break the poop spawned.
Bethany: Divine intervention
Difficulty: 5/10
not too difficult to get through if you have a good deal of whisps, only you won’t have many (if any at all) once you’ve beaten him.
Item rating: A
it reflects lasers, very cool.
Jacob and Esau: Vanishing twin
Difficulty: 9/10
if you start questioning your sanity while trying to get this unlock, don’t worry, that’s natural.
Item rating: B
we could do with more risk/reward items like this. only donwside is its useless past womb 1.
Conclusion
overall, Hush can be difficult, but with practise fighting him becomes more bearable over time. the unlocks, much like the boss rush unlocks, are very hit and miss, but generally i’d say the hush unlocks are better.
