Here’s how to make the intro and ending videos work on Steam Deck for Ginka and Atri, and maybe other KiriKiri engine games.
Resumo
GINKA works on Steam Deck right away (even tho it’s not yet getting a Verified badge no Steam), but the intro and ending videos don’t play because they use a special codec not supported on Steam Deck. This guide will help you fix this using ProtonGE and Protontricks.
Pré-requisitos
All the steps in this guide happen in Desktop mode. You might want to use a mouse and keyboard or TeamViewer from your main PC for easier control.
- Etapa 1: Install the latest ProtonGE (available through ProtonUp-Qt in the Discovery store).
- Etapa 2: Install ProtonTricks (also available in the Discovery store).
How to Fix Opening/Ending Movies
Primeiro, if you’ve played the game before, you must do this step. Se não, you can skip to the second step.
Etapa 1:
- Open Protontricks.
- Select the game from the list.
- Escolher “Select the default wineprefix.”
- Então, clique em “Delete ALL DATA AND APPLICATIONS INSIDE THIS PROTON PREFIX.”
Etapa 2:
- Go to Steam, select the game, and navigate to Properties.
- In the Compatibility section, escolher “Forçar o uso de uma ferramenta específica de compatibilidade do Steam Play.”
- Selecione “GE-Proton8-21” (or the latest ProtonGE version).
- Inicie o jogo, wait until you reach the menu, and then exit the game.
Etapa 3:
- Agora, you need to install necessary components via Protontricks for a successful setup.
- Open Protontricks.
- Select the game from the list.
- Escolher “Select the default wineprefix.”
- Clique em “Run winecfg” e vá para o “Libraries” guia.
- Sob “New override for library,” add the following items: “devenum,” “quartzo,” e “qasf,” then click OK.
Etapa 4:
- You’ll be taken back to the previous menu.
- Clique em “Install a Windows DLL or component.”
- Selecione “devenum” e clique em OK.
- Wait for the process to finish and return to the previous menu.
Etapa 5:
- De novo, clique em “Install a Windows DLL or component.”
- Desta vez, selecione “quartz_feb2010” e clique em OK.
- Wait for the installation to complete and return to the previous menu.
Etapa 6:
- Mais uma vez, clique em “Install a Windows DLL or component.”
- Escolher “wmp11” e clique em OK.
- Confirm any pop-up messages and wait until you return to the previous menu.
- Depois disso, exit Protontricks.
Etapa 7:
- Start a new game and fast-forward to the end of the prologue. If you followed the steps correctly, the movie should play correctly after the prologue ends.
Solução de problemas
Se, por algum motivo, your winecfg is set to emulate Windows XP, Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11) won’t install. Nesse caso, restart from the first step in Part One and change the Windows version to Windows 7 ou janelas 10 in winecfg before continuing.
While these steps are designed to work with other visual novels using the same KiriKiri engine, I’ve personally tested them with Ginka, Atri, and 9-Nine Episode 1. It successfully works for Ginka and Atri, but 9-Nine Episode 1 may display an error message (which doesn’t appear before applying this fix, so there’s some progress). These steps should theoretically work for the Grisaia Phantom Trigger series, as they share the same engine and developers.
If you expand on this solution to make other games function, please share your knowledge on a publicly searchable platform, not just on a Discord server, to help the gaming community.
