In the game Nuclear Option, we use sensors to find things. These sensors are like our eyes and ears in the game. They help us detect stuff. We sometimes get confused about how they work, especially when we’re using aircraft radar.

We’re making a guide to explain all of this. It might not be perfect right now, and we might fix it later. So, if you see some mistakes in how it looks, please forgive us. We’re working on making it better.

Basic Detection

Remember that in this game, all units benefit from sharing information. If an enemy unit detects you, all hostile units will know your location. Similarly, your allies can also benefit from what you can see. To remain hidden, you must stay out of sight from all enemy units.

Additionally, it’s important to note that weapons operate independently of the method of target detection. Once launched, they will track the target regardless of whether you deselect it. For some weapons like the Scythe, a friendly unit may need to maintain target detection during part of the weapon’s flight. More detailed information about weapon usage can be found in other guides. The key takeaway here is that the detection and targeting systems are linked only in the sense that your aircraft or a friendly unit must provide the weapon with the target’s location upon firing. Your own detection system is not required to guide the weapon, nor is a specific type of sensor necessary.

It’s worth mentioning that no detection method can penetrate or bypass terrain. Any unit must have a clear line of sight to detect you, although they can still see you through a data link if another unit has visual contact.

Detection Types

  • Visual: This means the pilot can see you. All units have this ability within a range of about 3 kilometers.
  • Optical: This detection type involves the unit using a zooming camera to spot you. Units like Cricket, Compass, and Chicane rely on optical detection.
  • Radar: Radar detection has a range of 40-50 kilometers and is displayed in a forward-facing cone on your multifunction display. Units like Revoker and Darkreach carry radar, and certain ground units also use radar for detection.

How to Stay Hidden?

Optical and Visual detection are not discussed here. Radar, however, is the sensor that can make an aircraft more visible to the enemy.

All aircraft possess a basic Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) that alerts them when they are being pinged. If your radar is active and another aircraft is within its cone, they will detect your presence as your radar ping will be visible on their minimap. Consequently, the red triangle around you will flash, and their entire team can access this information through datalink.

If you are already being detected by another radar station, having your radar on will not reveal anything new to them. However, if you are currently undetected, turning off your radar can prevent you from being exposed, allowing you to approach a target more closely without alerting them in certain situations.

That's everything we are sharing today for this Nuclear Option guide. This guide was originally created and written by Wolfman. In case we fail to update this guide, you can find the latest update by following this link.
