Invoering
If you’re looking at this guide, you might have accidentally given away your soul to a little kid and want it back without anyone knowing. Helaas, the online solutions haven’t been helping you much. Het goede nieuws is, removing sys_info_962 and sys_info_963 is still doable, and it’s not much tougher than before!
Voorwaarden
Before you start, there are a couple of things you have to do.
Steam ID and the App ID Folder
Ten eerste, you’ll need your Steam ID. To find it, click on your username in the top right corner of Steam, selecteer vervolgens “Account Settings.” On the account settings page, your Steam ID will be right under your username.
Nu, let’s locate the Undertale App ID folder. Open File Explorer on your computer, klik op “This PC” in the left menu, and select your C Drive. Navigeer naar “Programmabestanden (x86),” then go to “Stoom,” and after that, open “Userdata.” In this menu, find the folder that matches your Steam ID. Ten slotte, locate and open the folder named “391540.” Don’t worry about it now; just keep it open for later.
The Undertale Folder
Open another File Explorer window and click on the bar at the top. Type in %appdata% and press enter. This will lead you to the “Roaming” map. In the bar where you entered %appdata% earlier, klik op “AppData” to go to the AppData folder. Vanaf daar, Klik op de “Local” folder and find the “UNDERTALE” map. Like before, we’ll revisit this folder later, so keep it open for now.
Downgrading the Game
Ten slotte, the only thing remaining is to downgrade your Undertale to an older version. Right-click on Undertale in Steam and select “Properties.” In this menu, klik op “Betas” and then choose “Beta Participation.” Opt for “old_version_100 – old_version_100,” and Steam will install version 1.0 of Undertale automatically. This step is crucial and essentially the main reason why this method is effective.
How to Avoid Issues when Deleting the Files
Now that we’ve completed all the necessary steps, we can begin the process of reclaiming your soul.
Corrupting your Steam Cloud Data
Om te beginnen, close Steam entirely. Daarna, revisit the 391540 folder we located earlier and open the remote folder within it. Binnen, you’ll find either a file named “sys_information_962” of “sys_information_963,” depending on your interaction with Chara. Regardless of which one it is, the process remains the same. Open the file with Notepad. If there’s text, erase it entirely; if it’s empty, add any text you’d like. Save your changes and close the file.
Volgende, return to the 391540 map, delete the file named “remotecache.vdf,” and then launch Steam. If you encounter a “File Conflict” for Undertale, you’re on the right path. Attempt to start Ondertaal, and Steam will display a warning about a “Cloud Conflict.” Voordat u verdergaat, go back to the 391540 folder and delete everything in it. Dan, return to the Cloud Conflict menu and select the “Local Save” optie, and click continue. This step will eliminate the file that has been replacing your sys_information_962 or sys_information_963 file each time you delete it, but we’re not done yet.
Removing Genocide For Good
To wrap things up, right-click on Undertale and select “Eigenschappen” once more. In the General menu, schakel de uit “Houden save games in the Steam Cloud for Undertale” optie, and then exit Steam again. Completely delete the 391540 folder and the UNDERTALE folder you identified at the beginning of the guide. Open Steam and return to the Betas menu from earlier, then choose “None.”
Nu, all that remains is to launch Undertale, reach the first save point, and save the game. Close Steam, re-enable the “Keep save games in the Steam Cloud for Undertale” optie, en je bent klaar! Gefeliciteerd, you’ve successfully reclaimed your soul from the little one you made a promise to!
How to Avoid Issues without Deleting the Files
If you’re not concerned about removing the sys_information_962 or sys_information_963 files and just want to play Undertale without facing Genocide consequences, there’s an easier method that skips the previous steps.
In the UNDERTALE folder, locate the sys_information_962 or sys_information_963 file, right-click it, en kies “Properties.” Dan, go to “Beveiliging” en klik “Bewerking…” Under “Group or user names,” selecteren “SYSTEM,” and for each option under “Permissions for ‘SYSTEM’,” check “Deny.” Klikken “Toepassen” en dan “OK” at the bottom, and you’re finished. Genocide consequences are now avoided!
Echter, please note that if you ever uninstall and reinstall Undertale or attempt to delete the files, you’ll need to repeat this process.
