This manual is a little bunch of simple details, tips for research, (step-by-step guide, misschien) over Tunguska: The Visitation.
Overzicht
In Tunguska areas, you might discover: homes of friendly and unfriendly NPCs, spots where monsters appear (some hidden (like ghouls rising from graves) in places like the church); wooden crates holding items, stationary “kisten” and lockers; campfires for cooking (not all are good for this), and beds; anomalies.
Human NPCs act pretty simple – they patrol their camps and only respond if they spot enemies (mostly mutants, wolves) in their view. If mutants are chasing you, you can go to a friendly camp where they’ll help you deal with them.
Later, after unlocking new areas and spending time, friendly and hostile factions will take over specific spots or attack other points across Tunguska. They might even launch attacks against each other. (A message in the lower left corner will notify you; helping a friendly faction boosts your reputation and you can loot enemy corpses.
Your reputation only goes up if you personally defeat the enemy). Monster spawn locations are fixed, and as you progress (especially after the visitation), new mutants will appear, getting stronger and more numerous in positions.
Crates, Workbenches and Labs
Wooden crates (that you can break) hold random items that you can obtain by getting close. The chances of getting equipment are small, but the crates may reappear at their original spots after some in-game time. Most commonly found items include junk, voedsel, munitie, and materials for making serums. Take the opportunity to search them when you can.
Voorzichtig zijn! Destroyed wooden crates leave behind boards that can interact with your character, either blocking the path or, depending on your luck, offering new exploration opportunities.
Static crates and lockers contain loot, and a convenient use is to store extra equipment that you can’t carry with you. Bijvoorbeeld, after a fight with bandits, find the nearest crate and store items there; they won’t disappear, and other NPCs can’t interact with your belongings.
(When defeating human enemies, they might leave coordinates for a stash with a rough description of its location. After receiving stash information, a crate or backpack appears in the game and can be searched).
Crates at bases. Each NPC camp has several boxes where you can store your equipment. To optimize your early game, I recommend taking the Cossacks’ base at the railway station (open the story location) because it has 4 immediately available boxes (3 static, one on the train that can be moved between locations on the rails with your loot, but you’ll need a wrench and three bolts for this) (en 5 will be available as you advance the Cossacks quest to find their man). Assign each box for food, munitie, wapens (along with serum materials). This base includes a workbench for fixing weapons, assembling ammo, and a lab for serum production. This location can provide everything you need to make money in a safe zone.
Anomalies
Hier, anomalies have several positions (variërend van 2 naar 3, bijvoorbeeld) where they can “move,” but strictly within a specific area (Bijvoorbeeld, the anomaly near the village at the game’s start will always be near the well). You can detect them by carefully listening to the sounds they make and throwing stones towards the area, especially with the experimental detector activated, obtainable from Hans in the initial village.
Echter, there’s a small trick, feature, or bug that the developer might fix in the future. When you throw a stone with the right mouse button, you can see its flight path, and this yellow path becomes blurred, revealing the anomaly’s location, making it less hazardous for you. (This works only with the bubble anomaly).
Speurtochten
The game features various types of quests:
- Quests without time limits (tasks like fetching something, verkennen, or finding items).
- Time-limited serum quests (you must locate specific drugs for a merchant and deliver them before the deadline, typically given a couple of weeks to complete).
- Small optional events linked to specific times (bijv., Halloween every 7 dagen, involving a battle with a strong boss at the church location, with a 1-day limit).
- Drop supplies in a location within a limited time (tot 24 uur).
Tunguska Visitation doesn’t push you to rush through the game by completing all quests quickly. Only serum orders from vendors at different camps will have time limits, indicated by a deadline marked as day – xx (if the deadline is mentioned as day-12, and you’ve only played for 5 dagen, you still have 7 days to finish the mini-quest).
Aanvullend, gedurende het hele spel, there will be minor decisions to make, such as choosing whom to deliver an item to or whether to keep or return something. These decisions mostly affect rewards and certain achievements in Steam.
Visitations (or blowouts) + Tunguska Syndrome
Visitations occur every few days, and being on the surface during this time will harm you, causing Tunguska Syndrome and Radiation. If caught off guard, quickly run to any building to reduce damage. alternatief, if there’s a basement or dungeon on the location, hiding there will shield you from the effects of the visit; being underground offers protection. (Certain serums are also available to decrease the damaging effects of the Visitation).
Having a high amount of TUN. Syndrome makes you more susceptible to damage, but it can be healed with serums, vodka, and the Visitation itself when on the surface, albeit at the cost of sacrificing health.
Aanvullend, after the visit, monsters become stronger; they’ll have increased health, and some will start wearing armor. Bovendien, they will appear more frequently in the locations.
Radiation
Radiation can be encountered throughout the game but remains mostly harmless up to a radiation level of around ~35 points. Beyond this threshold, your health will start decreasing rapidly. Steer clear of barrels with radioactive waste, old vehicles, and certain locations where the radiation background is exceptionally high.
To counteract radiation, you can use potassium iodide pills, which decrease radiation levels and provide short-term resistance. Serums and assistance from doctors in the camps are also effective in managing and treating radiation.
Saves
You can save using the quick save button when there are no hostile creatures nearby or with a bed or sleeping bag. It’s advisable to acquire a sleeping bag early on as it provides a consistent way to have an extra save slot (it also restores your health). Ensure the area around you is clear, then go to sleep for an hour, preferably while eating to restore energy and enhance your health.
Saves can also serve as a method to obtain additional items from enemy corpses and acquire more leaves for serums. Each new load before defeating an enemy alters the likelihood of finding different items, and this principle extends to plant leaves for serums as well.
Serums
These are your upgrades, remedies, and sources of wealth. When creating them, you’ll need the recipe or can find it in other guides. If you aim to collect all the recipes from the game story, you’ll obtain a notebook where you can record each serum recipe. This notebook takes up 4 slots and holds all the papers without filling up other inventory spaces.
Aanvankelijk, avoid selling monster and plant materials, especially high-quality ones; keeping them can yield more money and positive effects. Tip – use a single base with a laboratory on the territory to store all materials. Don’t forget about:
- Alcohol – it’s abundant in the zone.
- Planten – similarly found throughout the zone, but after clearing the farm of bandits on Sidor’s quest, you can secure a steady supply of new leaves, although it takes time without fertilizer.
- Mutant parts – found at killed monsters everywhere, so where you encounter a wolf or ghoul, you’ll find them again. It’s best to kill them with melee weapons, lure them with shots, inflict some damage with small arms (note that ghouls will then limp, indicating they are about to die), hide around a corner, and finish them off with cold weapons. If they catch up, kick them to stun for a while.
- Fuel – logs that can be chopped with a cold weapon (like an axe). Go to a tall, narrow tree and start chopping wood. These are used in crafting, laboratorium, and campfires.
- Fuel-gasoline is most often found inside cars or tanks. Try to save them for making the most advanced serums that use gasoline.
Gameplay and Camera
Tunguska Visitation offers players the ability to control the character from an Overview camera with multiple variants. When venturing into new locations or exploring potential battle spots, the hybrid camera is optimal. It allows you to look further ahead, providing a better view of the surroundings. This camera is also suitable for players utilizing long-range weapons.
For direct melee combat in confined spaces, opt for the Chasecam. It features auto-targeting, facilitating engagement with enemies in close quarters.
Gunfight
The AI may not showcase extensive tactical knowledge, but it compensates with high damage, making it challenging to simply rush the enemy. When confronting a stronger foe, consider utilizing low covers like concrete slabs that fully shield your character when in a sitting position. While moving in a sitting position, your character can pop out of cover at the necessary height for shooting, tricking the enemy into thinking you are fully protected. This tactic allows you to take down well-defended enemies with relative ease.
Stealth
The game introduces a straightforward stealth mechanic, considering creatures have a reduced field of view during the night. Tools for silent infiltration include rocks, a boa constrictor, silenced weapons, and potentially mines. Before engaging enemies stealthily, choose a time close to night and activate the hybrid camera to assess the proximity of foes and study patrol routes. Make sure to save using a sleeping bag if you plan to farm stashes or better equipment from enemies.
In Tunguska, stealth is linked to sound; running, shooting, or throwing an item will attract enemies when you’re close enough.
Use stones to divert enemy attention. One throw will catch their notice, and the second stone will draw them toward the noise. Seize this moment to sneak up from behind and hold down the left mouse button.
If you face a situation where multiple enemies might rush you at once or are clustered together, consider using a mine to neutralize them without triggering an alarm. When you throw a grenade, enemies can scatter, but NPCs don’t react to the mine, allowing you to eliminate several enemies without much trouble. Echter, running can attract an enemy from a medium distance, putting them on alert. Voorzichtig zijn.
