A speedy guide on collecting NPCs. I plan to include a complete section in my detailed guide, but things are a bit confusing at the moment, so I’m sharing this quickly for players.

Invoering

Now that the new farming update is firmly in place, it’s time to put your people to work! You’ve done a lot for them, so why not have them give back?

Farming got added in a recent update, and NPC farming came shortly after. Automating farming is a big deal because it saves a ton of time, resources, and storage space. The main reason is that NPC farmers don’t need a hoe, fertilizer bucket, or water bucket. They just need a seed bag, and they’re ready to roll!

Opmerking: Things might change in the future, maar voor nu, go with it!

NPC Farming and You

Let’s break down the process step by step to clear up any confusion, Oké?

Ten eerste, you need fields. Each NPC can work on one field at a time, with a limit on the number of plots they can manage. Aanvankelijk, zijn 24 plots, but it increases to a maximum of 32 when you have maximum happiness on all 6 current needs: Meals, Dranken, Heating, Maintenance, Healing, and Security. Dus, the biggest useful field, whether on land or water, is 32. A symmetrical 4×8 field is a nice option for a neat setup. Check out an overhead shot of both land and water fields:

Nu, let’s talk about how to get those farmers out there working.

Eerst, go into the Dynasty Screen and head to the jobs tab. Find your fields:

Select one; in this example, I chose a water field. Volgende, you’ll see the field UI:

It comes pre-selected with a crop for that field (Lotus for Water, Garlic for Land). Click on the crop image to choose which one your worker will plant. In dit geval, I picked rice.

The UI will update with the chosen crop. Nu, assign a worker by selecting one from your list:

Ten slotte, click on the red seed bag box below the crop image in the UI:

and choose the appropriate seed bag. Nu, you’re all set!

The water field will update in the main game to show the worker and the crop:

The same process applies to land fields, but you have more choices:

A quick note on seasonal crops: You’ll see up to 3 symbols next to each crop in the image—Lente (green leaf), Zomer (yellow sun), and Fall (red leaf). No crops grow in winter.

With your crops set up, you’ll start to see the work happening over time:

This is just for looks, hoewel. The actual work, like all other production, happens during the season change. Your new crops will appear in your food storage, except for Tea Leaves, which are categorized as a beverage for storage purposes.

En dat is het! I hope this helps clarify things for you.

Seed Bags

NPC farming makes your farming inventory much simpler. Instead of a bunch of items cluttering your inventory, you only need one thing: Seed Bags! Nu, how do you get them?

For many items, head down to Aratani and find this guy:

He’s a major wanderer, so you might have to search a bit, but he often hangs out near the Tavern. The farming trader occasionally has good stuff, but his real value is in seed bags. His stock changes randomly each season, so if he doesn’t have what you want, check back next season. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating—I went 5 YEARS before he had a single seed bag of soy. Dus, a little patience (or end-of-season save-scumming) might be needed.

Nu, let’s address a catastrophe! Seed bags have durability, and they’ll break!

OH NO!

Oké, maybe a tad melodramatic. Maar maak je geen zorgen. Once you grow a crop once, you’re set for the entire game. Waarom? Because you can make your own at the Tailor’s workbench.

Why the tailor? Because seed bags are made from 4 leather and a variable number of harvested crops. Makes sense, rechts? Head to your Tailor’s workbench and open the UI.

On the left, you’ll find selections for both land and water field bags. Let’s make a rice seed bag (because our last one fell apart, the pesky thing). Dus, choose Water Fields Seed Bags. A new radial will pop up with your options.

Hier, you can find how much each seed bag in the category costs.

Dus, when your crops are ready, and before you allow the hungry NPCs to eat, gather sufficient crops to create a new seed bag. Make sure to always have at least one extra seed bag for every NPC field task. They will automatically take a new one when their current bag breaks, usually after 2-3 seasons.
