The following are the characters that can be unlocked in the game. I am not sure if these methods works all the time, but I am sure that these are the ways I used to unlock the characters.
Alruna
Complete Niflheim on Hard with at least one Ice Heart.
In order to succeed in this situation, it’s recommended to control the character Amaranth and enhance her ability called “Emerald Bracelet.” This skill provides you with a green heart every 50 seconden. The green hearts are added automatically at the conclusion. Daarom, after obtaining 1-2 ice hearts, focus on accumulating additional green hearts to safeguard the ice hearts.
Amarant
Obtain 2 full green hearts in one round
To make this happen, just make sure you collect at least 2 green hearts within one round. Select the character you find easiest to control to minimize the risk of getting hurt. There’s not much else you need to think about.
Blud
Find his gravesite
During the character selection, the game will display the specific level and wave you should aim for. Once you reach that point, explore the map to find Blud’s gravesite, which is marked by a tombstone with a red moon on it. Touch the gravesite, and it should unlock, revealing a question mark.
Hafgrim
Conquer “Halvard the destroyer”
Defeat Halvard, which is the second mini boss in Midgard.
Hansi

M.I.S.S.I.N.G
Enter the shop 7 times without buying anything
During character selection, you will encounter a character labeled as “??????.” For each visit to the shop without making a purchase, een “?” will disappear. It’s crucial to refrain from any actions in the shop, including collecting the crystal. To play it safe, promptly exit the shop, and using Talkor is recommended since you generally want to keep your gold with him.
Some online sources propose that unlocking 7 relics and 7 artifacts in the glossary is necessary. Echter, I couldn’t personally verify or deny this, as I unlocked M.I.S.S.I.N.G. later in het spel.

Talkör’s Favor
To earn Talkör’s trust, make sure to shop with him 25 keer. You can consistently locate Talkôr at the end of each pre-boss room. Keep engaging in transactions with him to build up the required trust.
Thyra
