The Hollow Knight universe can be very overwhelming at times, you can feel disorientated or at a loss as to what exactly you are doing. Tips
- You can pogo enemies by jumping on one, holding the down key, and attacking. (Illustration above) This will allow you to attack down and bounce on enemies, spikes, or other things, it is very useful for attacking and going to different areas within the game.
- If you hear crying near your location, it is a green creature, a grub in a jar. Break the jar to free it, rescuing grubs is definitely worthwhile. The rescued grubs can be seen in the upper left of the Forgotten Crossroads.
- Look for Cornifer in the different places you go, he is the cartographer and will be able to sell you his maps, Echter, don’t feel pressured if you can’t buy them on the spot, the game is more about exploring on your own.
- Patience is key in boss encounters, don’t be so aggressive, learn their moves, en “dance” with them, the fights will be more bearable.
- It’s okay to get lost and die many times, it’s part of the game.
- The beginning area is the most visually “boring”, don’t give up, the world is much nicer later on.
- Don’t underestimate the spells! They can save your life and get you out of trouble.
- Search all over the map, never assume that because something is not marked on the map, there will be nothing, there are many areas and secrets housed there.
- Make sure you go for your shade when you die, the second time you die you will lose all your geo (in-game currency).
- Everything is better with sound, the game is also very much about listening carefully.
- Change charms when necessary, it’s good to be flexible and switch to strategies you might not have thought of with boss encounters.
