You wanted to remove the Heads-Up Display (HUD) from the original Dead Island game, but couldn’t find any mods for it? Goed, this guide will show you how to hide the in-game HUD in Dead Island.
How to Hide HUD
The first thing you need to do is download HUD.xui from this link.
Simply extract the Data folder to your “Documents -> DeadIsland -> out” map. If you don’t see the “out” folder there, launch the game, tweak some video settings in the Options menu, redden , en exit. This should prompt the game to generate the DeadIsland folder in your Documents directory. If it’s still not there, manually create it. Eenmaal klaar, the mod should function properly.
You’ll find the HUD.xui file in this directory:
Changelog
- Zombies no longer display indicators for their level, gezondheid, and stamina.
- Fury indicator and combo meter are now hidden during gameplay.
- While the weapon wheel is open, the XP bar, health bar, stamina bar, and weapon condition bar remain hidden.
- The radar has been removed from the screen.
- Indicators for XP gain, hit damage, and critical hits against zombies have been hidden.
- Grapple button prompts for when zombies grab you are also hidden.
I’ve kept the weapon wheel visible as per my preference. It won’t appear until you press the corresponding button anyway.
Icons for lootable items, pickup indicators, and indicators for breakable doors remain visible. I don’t believe they detract too much from immersion. This mod was tailored to my preferences, but you’re free to edit the HUD.xui file however you like, hiding or revealing elements as desired.
