Dit Steden: Skylines strategy guide will show you how to easily win the “By the Dam” scenario by relocating the entiry city somewhere safe. Finishing all five situations in the Natural Disasters DLC is necessary to open the magical rainbow unicorn park.
Building a New City
This one scenario in the Natural Disasters DLC gave me a tough time. After checking various guides, I finally succeeded on my fourth attempt. I want to share my winning strategy in case it helps others!
The common approach is to modify the initial area and use flood barriers, canals, and water pumps to safeguard the original city. If you’re curious about this terraforming tactic, I recommend watching a YouTube video explaining it.
My winning strategy took a different path. I chose to move the entire city, resulting in more initial casualties but less trouble later on. I constructed a small emergency shelter and a brief radio mast (couldn’t afford more), outlining an evacuation route through the busiest part of the original city. In een week 2, I gave the evacuation order. The remaining resources were spent purchasing the southern tile, redirecting the highway, and establishing a new city:
After accumulating sufficient funds, I moved the full emergency shelter to the fresh city. I also relocated important structures, inbegrepen 2 medical clinics, 2 elementary schools, 1 middelbare school, 2 police stations, 2 fire stations, 1 bus depot, 1 small park, 1 incinerator, en 1 water drain pipe. To finance the construction of the new city, I had to acquire both the 20K and 60K loans.
Vroeg spel
In the early part of the game, the most critical factors are 1) proximity to the highway, en 2) available land for construction. My initial two tries at this scenario failed because I was lured by the rail and sea connections in the northeast. Echter, for this successful attempt, I chose the buildable land in the south, and that decision turned out much better.
By Week 18, the old city was completely gone. I had lost approximately 5,000 people to the flood, but the remaining 2,000 were safely resettled. The shelter was running low on food, and the new homes were nearly ready. Dus, I clicked “Release Citizens” and then demolished the shelter and radio mast. I also cleared all the flooded roads in the old city to stop paying maintenance on them. My budget was negative at this point; I minimized water and electricity, cut all other unnecessary expenses, including turning off the schools.
By Week 22, my budget was back in the green, and my population was growing again. I no longer had to worry about additional disasters.
The next objective was to designate more residential areas, attract more people, and gradually reinstate the services.
Mid Game
By Week 100, my city had transformed into this. I manually constructed intersections due to the challenging hilly terrain, making it impractical to use pre-built intersections. The city featured a combination of specialized industry (forestry and ore), generic industry, low-density commercial, and high-density residential.
During this period, a second meteor struck the location where the dam used to be. It took out the water pump and 2 windmills, necessitating replacements, Maar gelukkig, there wasn’t any other significant damage.
Bereiken Week 150 marked the halfway point! I achieved a population of 30K and was experiencing a daily increase of 400 mensen.
Late Game
By Week 200, my population had reached 54K, with almost all of it fitting into the tile 2 south of the original starting tile.
As my highways became congested, and industries complained about a lack of buyers, I acquired 1 tile to the east and 1 to the north. This allowed me to transport goods to the external railway.
Aanvullend, I set up an underground metro network to alleviate traffic on the highways.
The last meteor strike occurred after reaching 55K population. It took out 4 water pumps that I had to replace, Maar gelukkig, there was no other damage.
Approaching Week 231, I was nearing the finish line with a daily population gain of 550.
I successfully secured victory in Week 232. This attempt went much smoother than my previous ones. The key takeaways from this strategy are: 1) build away from the initially doomed tile, en 2) construct on relatively flat land near the highway. There’s no need to extensively terraform the landscape or move too far to the east.
