This guide will go over, in detail, alle 39 collectible achievements currently available in Arid. Blijkbaar, major spoilers for the story/secrets in the game. If anything is wrong, please feel free to add a comment informing me, I’m just human after all.
Playthrough-Based (Read Before Playing)
Tourist – Complete the game on Tourist or harder difficulties.
Ontdekkingsreiziger – Complete the game on Explorer or harder difficulties.
Survivalist – Complete the game on Survivalist or harder difficulties.
Dead Man Walking – Complete the game on Dead Man Walking.
These achievements are pretty self-explanatory, once you select “New Game”, there will be a difficulty preset setting on the top, where you can select one of the above. Completing the hardest difficulty will unlock the easier difficulties, without having to play through each one. Dead Man Walking is tough, so if you have no knowledge or experience of the game, I would recommend one playthrough on a lower difficulty to get the ropes, especially since Dead Man Walking turns the objectives off, which guide you through the game.
What’s up with this wind? – Encounter a sandstorm.
This achievement will also just randomly trigger somewhere throughout your playthrough. You can’t predict when but it’s not a big deal. Just get in some shelter and it’ll pass over pretty fast.
Zone 1 (Crash Site to Shaman’s Hut)
The rest of the achievements can be achieved in chronological order (as you play through the game). There are achievements like ‘Librarian’ (read all 36 brieven, notities, and journals) and ‘Tiger the Builder’ (repair all 84 facilities), that require you to find notes and repair facilities throughout the game. I’ve included the locations to all of these collectibles throughout the guide, being able to pick them up as you continue the story. This is what I recommend, Echter, if you want to leave them to another playthrough (so it’s a lot less you have to worry about), you can do so as well.
Welcome to the Atacama – Wake up in the Atacama desert.
After the credits, you receive it as soon as you load into the game.
Continue to the objective waypoint into the cave,
Opmerking #1 – Walk into the cave and you will see a mummified body on your left, this is the first of a couple bodies, in it’s hand lies a note, hold E to read it.
Opmerking #2 – Right after the first body and the one on the right with the spear, if you walk forward a few steps you will see a body lying in a small cubby. There is a red drawing to the right of the cubby on the wall. The note is next to the body.
Continue on and out of the cave, on the other side of the crash. Follow the objective by looting around the crashsite.
High Quality – Find or craft an high quality tool.
This is easy to achieve when scavenging the rest of the crash site. There is a shovel on the ground right next to the big wheel, and a pickaxe behind it (you’ll need the pickaxe either way to progress).
Zone 2 (Shaman’s Hut to End of Giant Cave)
Continue on to the cave by breaking the boulder with the pickaxe, until you come to a mummified body
Boek #1 – In the cave, on the body, pretty hard to miss.
Out in the world! – Move on from the crashsite.
Achieved as soon as you step out of the cave.
Poor boy – Find a Dead Viscacha
Necessary to progress through the objectives, the dead viscacha is on the pedestal in front of you, as soon as you enter the ruins, pick it up to get the achievement.
Just a tip for the next objective, the game never really tells you how to deconstruct the viscacha. Om dit te doen, you need to get a sharp rock knife first. Right after the viscacha, you can hook a right and find a ruin building barricaded with planks. After tearing down and entering, there is a knife in the box on your right. You can also craft one. The crafting bench is in one of the ruins, with the bed and campfire. Je hebt nodig 2 rotsen en 2 plant fiber. Rocks are simply found on the ground, and the plant fiber is obtained by collecting the festuca around the ground (spiky-looking grass). You’ll need a lot of these for all of the facilities, so I recommend stocking up.
Faciliteit #1 – Kampvuur, 2 sticks and 2 rocks. You’ll need to repair this to cook the viscacha.
One day down – Survive 1 day in the game (any difficulty)
Around the time of deconstructing and cooking the viscacha, you should sleep in the bed next to the campfire. Hierna, you should be pretty much finished with 1 full day.
Boek #2 – Right outside the ruin to take shelter in, a body lies next to a chest, there is a book on the ground in front of the body.
Faciliteit #2 – Critter Trap, 2 planks 4 fiber. Drop down the ledge from the book, right next to the stairs and the dirty water bucket.
Faciliteit #3 – Critter Trap, 2 planks 4 fiber. Backtrack a tiny bit to where you found the viscacha, the ruin to the left, on the ground you’ll see it.
Shortcuts – Open your first shortcut. & Faciliteit #4
After leaving the ruins, continue down the path to get to the broken bridge. To your left will be a box with a strong rope in it, grab it. Turn around and go over to the rock with the rope, and the blue flag. Grab the metal hook on the table and repair the rappel. You will unlock the achievement, and it will count as a facility.
You’ll come across a mineshaft when you climb down the rope, loot what you need and take a left. You’ll see a sort of crossroads, the left path taking you under a big arch, and the right path is more open with some buildings, take a right.
Faciliteit #4 – Bed, 5 plant fiber 2 cloth. When you take a right at the crossroads it’s the only building you’ll see, before the blue flag.
Faciliteit #5,6, en 7, and Book #3 – In totaal, je hebt nodig 9 plant fiber, 2 sticks, 5 rocks, 2 cloth, en 2 planks. Shortly after the bed, walk past the blue flag for a few steps and you’ll see a small cave on your left. A campfire, bed, and critter trap are in here. There is also the 3rd book here as well.
Faciliteit #8,9,10, en 11, and Book #4 – In total you’ll need 13 fiber, 4 planks, 2 cloth, 5 rocks, en 2 sticks. Exit the cave proceed forward, you should see a house on top of a hill surrounded by some cacti, go there. Enter the house and inside the book is right in front of you, on some boxes. Aan uw rechterhand, still inside, is a critter trap and campfire next to a chest. Turn back around and on the other side of the house is the bed, next to a crafting table (You’ll also unlock the Base Crawling prestatie, for repairing 10 facilities). The second trap is outside of the house, close to the shed, and right next to a dirt pile.
Faciliteit #12 en 13 – Both critter traps, 8 fiber and 4 planks needed. From the last house, go through the cave on the left, there’s nothing in it but a chest. Come out on the other side to two houses. One critter trap is right outside of the first house, the second is in the other house, both on the ground.
To the left of the houses, you’ll see 2 big blue flags in the air, on wooden beams that connect a mountain to a big rock, go there.
Faciliteit #14 en 15 Je hebt nodig 2 cloth, 5 fiber, 4 sticks, en 2 planks. The bed is to your right as soon as you enter the archway. The a couple steps forward is the crafting table. These are tough because they just look like a small pile of rocks and a plank, but it’s right next to the blue chest on your right.
Faciliteit #16,17, en 18, and Note #3 – In total you’ll need 9 plant fiber, 2 sticks, 5 rocks, 2 cloth, en 2 planks. My apologies, but turn right around after you fix the crafting table, and go back towards the 2 huizen, but don’t go up to them. In plaats van, go left of the hill and at the bottom of the mountain, and below the houses, there is a mini cave. In the mini cave there’s a bed, campfire, and trap. The note is pinned on the post to your right.
Opmerking #4 – Exit the cave and you’ll see some giant pointy rocks that for a hand. It doesn’t look like it from the cave but as you approach it will become clearer. Under the ring finger of the hand is a blue chest with the note on it.
Faciliteit #19 en 20 – 2 sticks, 5 rocks, 2 planks, 4 fiber. Make your way down from the hand to the small house in the middle. There is a critter trap and campfire right outside.
If you take a look to your right, you’ll see a blue flag on top of a hill with some rope hanging down. Make your way up there and continue on the path, there’s some red fence to guide you.
Faciliteit #21, and ‘Bridge’ Prestatie 3 bolts and 5 planks. Make your way up the small hill and you’ll see 2 pieces of metal laying on the ground. Repair them to get the achievement.
Now you may go across the bridge and rappel down. Dan, fix the Mineshaft, Faciliteit #22.
Ondergronds – You unlocked access to the mines.
Will be unlocked once you repair the mineshaft.
First Encounter – Hopefully the last one.
Unlocked once you descend down into the mineshaft.
Boek #5 – As soon as you drop down into the cave, go straight forward. You’ll see one white arrow on the wall, follow it, and you’ll come to a more open area with another arrow pointing to a hole in the wall on your left. Go to the back left of the room and parkour up to the hole. Hier, there is a cave with two beds and a body. The bed with the body has the book.
Opmerking #5 – Continue on from the last book and drop down the hole, I recommend standing on the barrels so the giant doesn’t see you. Nu, there is an arrow on the wall to your right, it is pointing left but you want to go right. Follow the minecart tracks to an open room. On your right, there will be a structure with a small hole, crouch through it and the note is on the ground. This will also unlock the ‘Reader’ prestatie, for reading 10 notities.
Zone 3 (Mining Town)
What was that? – Something lurks in the darkness…
Unlocks as soon as you escape and exit the mineshaft.
Mining Town – Reach the Mining Town.
This achievement will trigger some time after you exit the cave and see the town. Don’t worry if it doesn’t trigger right away, you’ll go into the town soon enough.
Faciliteit #23,24, en 25, and Letter #1 – Je hebt nodig 6 Sticks, 4 planks, 5 rocks, en 4 fiber. Follow the path down a bit until you trigger the voiceline that mentions the town. Instead of taking a right and going into the town, take a left to the graveyard the first building you come across (not the ruin on top of the hill), you will see the campfire, crafting table, and critter trap on the ground. The letter is on the bench on the left.
Opmerking #6 – Very close to the last facilities, look to your left to find a shed. On the table is a note next to an oil lantern.
Faciliteit #26,27, en 28 9 Vezel, 5 rocks, 2 sticks, 2 planks, 2 cloth. Make your way back to the mining town but don’t go into it yet. Once you have to walk up a big black rock, you’ll see a lone cactus to your left. If you look up and left on a small cliff, you can see an outpost on top. There is a staircase near the base, so go up to it. There is a campfire, bed, and trap under the awning.
Opmerking #7 – Now you can finally enter the town. Go to the Bodega, the first building (you’ll see the sign), and enter it. There are two rooms immediately on your right when you enter, go into the second one and you’ll see the note laying on the bottom of the cabinet.
Opmerking #8 – Continue on in to the Bodega. The note is on the counter in the last room.
Swimming with the Boys – Find the Pool.
Exit the Bodega. The pool is in the very center of the town. It is dry and rusty. Hop into it to get the achievement.
Faciliteit #29 – 5 rocks, 2 sticks. Hop out of the pool and head to the Taberna (in the direction of the Bodega). Right in front of the barricaded door is a campfire.
Opmerking #9 – The front door is barricaded but there is another doorway just to the right. Binnenkomen, and you’ll see the note pinned to the dartboard, on your left in the hallway.
Opmerkingen #10 – In the main room of the Taberna. Behind the counter is a body, the note is on the ground next to the body.
Faciliteit #30 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Exit the Taberna and look to your right to the Cruz Roja Medbay (it’s the one closest to you with the water tower). Enter it and in the last room there is a bed on the ground.
Mario and Ricardo & Brief #2 – Find out the fate of the couple of lovers.
Exit the Medbay but go around to the water tower. Walk up the stairs and get on to the roof. Er zijn 2 dead bodies on the right side, with the letter just next to them.
Faciliteit #31 – 4 sticks, 2 planks. Hop off the roof and enter the Communal House. Go into it and climb into the main room. There is a crafting table waiting to be built.
Faciliteit #32 – 4 fiber, 2 planks. Exit the Communal House and go to the Farmacia. Right outside of the main door (the one that is blocked off) there is a critter trap on the ground.
Opmerkingen #11 and Facility #33 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Follow the arrows up to the roof of the Farmacia and drop in. In the main room there is a note pinned to a bulletin board on the left. The room to the right has a body, and the bed in it.
Faciliteit #34 4 fiber, 2 planks. Retreat back out of the pharmacy and go towards the big barn. There is a smaller hut to the left of the barn. Just outside the hut to the left is a critter trap.
Peekaboo! – Find the curious mural.
Head over to the barn and you’ll see “pico pal que lee” written in red on the wall. Just to the right of that is a small red circle. You don’t really have to look straight at the painting, just in the general vicinity to get the achievement.
Faciliteit #35 en 36 – 4 fiber, 2 planks, 5 rocks, 2 sticks. Turn and go to the left side of the barn. At the entrance (the small hole you have to crawl through), there is a critter trap and a campfire on either side of the entrance.
Faciliteit #37 and Note #12 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Enter the barn and you’ll see the bed on your right, next to the crafting table. When you stand up from crouching, look back to where you came from, the note is on a piece of wood that you just crawled under.
Opmerking #13 – Proceed on until you see a dead body with a pickaxe to your right. The note is on him.
Zone 3.5 (Rock Canyon)
Faciliteit #38 and Note #14 – 4 fiber, 2 planks. You can finally leave the mining town and go into the canyon. Zodra je binnenkomt, there is a small hut to your left with a critter trap on the ground and note on the table.
Faciliteit #39,40, en 41 – 9 fiber, 2 cloth, 2 planks, 2 sticks, 5 rocks. Keep heading to your left past the first ruin and over some black rocks. You’ll see a mini cave with a blue flag on the other side. There is a campfire, trap, and bed.
Faciliteit #42 – 1 strong rope, 1 metal hook. Backtrack a little bit over the rocks. Head up to hill to your left, its in the very center of the canyon. On the top left side of the hill, there is a boulder with a rope. Repair this shortcut.
Faciliteit #43 en 44 – 4 fiber, 4 planks, 4 sticks. Climb down the rope and head into the little pasture. Immediately to your left, there is a critter trap. Before heading into the actual cacti, there is a crafting table on the right side, near the broken shed and a water filter.
Opmerking #15 – There is a sign on your right, before the cacti but past the red fence. The note is darted to the sign. It is on the other side of the sign, Echter.
I’m not at the beach, this is a bathtub! – Find the Bath Tub.
Walk into the cacti farm and go to the right side. Near the last couple of cacti, there will be a metal tub with dirty water in it. Look at it and you will get the achievement.
Boek #6 – Head straight past the cacti farm and into the cave. There is a dead body on the ground right before you can crawl through a hole on the left. The book is on the crate to the left of the bodies. I’m also 90% sure that this is the place that triggers the Echoes of the Past prestatie, but I could be wrong. (I’m writing this after playing through most of the achievements, so I may be guessing on some).
Faciliteit #45 and Letter #3 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Head back out of the cave and go left, past the ruin. There is a tall hut near some pipes. The letter is on the bench in front of you, and the bed is to the right.
Boek #7 – The whole canyon is essentially a big circle, that you’ll be following for most of these collectibles. Exit the house and hug the left cliff side, until you get to a big rock on your right with a sign under it. In front of the sign, op de grond, is the book. This will also unlock the Roberto the Helpful prestatie.
Faciliteit #46 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Keep hugging the left side until you come across a broken wagon. There’s nothing at the wagon, but if you look forward you will see some wood beams up a rock and two oil barrels. There is also a bed there.
Faciliteit #47 en 48 – 5 fiber, 5 rocks, 2 sticks, 2 cloth. Look forward from the last facility. You’ll see another little hut built into another rock, next to a tall dead tree. In here is a campfire and a bed.
Art is Everywhere – Find the unfinished art.
Head to the left of where you are and hug the left side yet again. You’ll come to a small wooden structure with a big mural painted on a rock. Climb up the ramp and look at the painting for the achievement.
Faciliteit #49 – 5 rocks, 2 sticks. Op dit punt, the objective should be to ‘Get closer to the plane’. If you have objectives turned on, look for the waypoint and head directly to it. Zo niet, turn around from the mural and look for a low hanging blue flag. There is a small camp with a bed (already made) and a campfire just to the right.
Faciliteit #50, 51 – 2 sticks, 4 fiber, 5 rocks, 2 planks. Turn back around and head toward the mural. When you can take a left, do so. You’ll see a small house a couple hundred feet in front of you. The campfire and critter trap are right outside the house, next to a water filter.
Boek #8 – Look the right of the house you are at currently, and you’ll see a wooden wagon next to a brown and blue barrel. The book is in that cart.
Faciliteit #52,53,54, en 55 – 5 rocks, 9 fiber, 4 planks, 6 sticks, 2 cloth. Now head toward and canyon and toward the objective yet again. Before you enter the actual canyon, you’ll see tons of wooden beams in front of a house to your right. There is a critter trap and campfire outside, and crafting table and bed inside.
Faciliteit #56 – 2 sticks, 5 rocks. Now you can start to make your way through the canyon. You’ll eventually come across a water filter and 2 dirt piles, to the right is a campfire.
Faciliteit #57 and Book #9 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. Break one more boulder and there will be a dead body on the ground, the book is next to the body. Look forward and there is a ramp to a bed on your right.
Zone 4 (Saltpeter Plant)
Moon Valley – Reach the Moon Valley.
This is another achievement that I’m not 100% sure of. Echter, I believe that it triggers as soon as you get out of the canyon (let me know if I’m wrong).
Faciliteit #58 – 5 fiber, 2 cloth. This next one is a little ways away. Take a left and start to go up to the saltpeter plant. Once you’re up the hill, take a left into the mineshaft and go through. Once you come out, there is a hut on your left. The bed isn’t actually in the hut itself, but go around back and you’ll see it.
Faciliteit #59 – 2 planks, 4 fiber. From the mineshaft exit, look straight forward and you’ll see a blue flag in the distance. The critter trap here is before the blue flag to the right. It’s hidden in the big rocks.
Hell no! – Run away from the bees! Maybe it’s safer at night..
BIG TRIGGER WARNING FOR THIS ONE. I myself am absolutely petrified of bees as they are my one and only fear. There is a hut next to the blue flag that you are near currently. Before you go running into the hut, which is what I did, expect for there to be an entire colony of bees waiting for you. I love this game and I really think the devs did an amazing job with little experience. Echter, they put the most AGGRESSIVE and LOUD buzzing noise on these bees that I have ever heard. All you have to do to trigger the achievement is get them to follow you. You can run away pretty easily and get the achievement.
