This guide explains how to defeat Joro-gumo in Nioh: Complete Edition during her original encounter in the Kinki Regionβs Spider Nest Castle mission. Joro-gumo can be a challenging opponent, but with the right strategy, you can overcome her in the Spider Nest Castle mission in the Kinki Region.

Joro-gumo is weak against the green Wind element. To enhance your damage during the fight, consider these optional strategies:
- Choose a Guardian Spirit with the Wind element, like Daiba-washi. You can get Daiba-washi either as a starter or later from the βThe Three Angry Godsβ sidemission in the Chugoku Region at level 31.
- μ¬μ© βWind Amuletβ item to apply the Wind element to your weapon, dealing elemental damage for a duration.
- Learn and equip the Jutsu βTalisman: λ°λβ to apply the Wind element to your weapon. It functions similarly to the Wind Amulet but gives you two uses that refresh. Itβs recommended to start the fight by using these Jutsu up first, and only then resort to using perishable Wind Amulets if needed.
The Fight
Before we dive into the fight, remember this basic tip: the white webs on the floor will slow you down, so steer clear of those areas.
μ§κΈ, letβs talk about tackling the boss. There are various strategies, but personally, I opted for the High Stance using a Katana.
λ¨κ³ 1:
In Phase 1 of the fight, if you prioritize safety, maintain a long distance from Joro-gumo and approach only at specific moments.
When she attempts to claw at you, either run or roll away, as she tends to perform this move 2-3 times consecutively.
During the moments when she sprays web in front of her, staying further away allows you to run in behind her easily, giving you an opportunity to strike her in the back while sheβs occupied.
Watch out for her transitioning into a crawling form on the floor. Keep your distance until she starts spinning her body around. Once she completes this action, itβs a good time to go in and land hits on her vulnerable back.
λ¨κ³ 2:
In Phase 2 of the battle, Joro-gumo introduces more webs, so continue avoiding them as you navigate the area.
When she charges to a specific section of the room, take the opportunity to hit her after she arrives.
Be cautious when she attempts to jump at youβrespect the move and swiftly move out of the way to avoid being hit.
Watch for a moment when she leans forward, indicating an attempt to hug you. When her front legs start glowing, back off and strike after she completes the maneuver.
If you have a Living Weapon, consider saving it for the very end to finish the fight. λμμΌλ‘, if you want to use it multiple times throughout the battle, λΉμ μ μ¬μ©ν μ μμ΅λλ€ βSmall Spirit Stoneβ λλ βSpirit Stoneβ items to charge up your Guardian Spiritβs gauge.
κΈ°μ΅νλ€, if my approach doesnβt align with your playstyle or if you prefer visual learning, there are excellent guides on YouTube from others. Some players prefer the Low Stance, taking a more aggressive approach by staying very close to Joro-gumo and spinning around to her back.
