Grand Theft Auto IV – Shutter Fix When Controller is Connected

What’s the issue?

Recently started playing the game using a keyboard and mouse, but wanted to get a bit of a console experience by plugging in an Xbox Series X controller.

This is how performance looks like in the normal case before connecting the controller. Absolutely smooth frametime graph.

But something went wrong. After pressing a couple of buttons on the controller, the constant hard stuttering began.

The game is unplayable.

결국, the solution to the problem turned out to be MUCH less complicated than the amount of headache from the problem itself.

It’s so simple that it’s hard to believe. Without the Steam overlay, something in the game breaks for some reason. I have checked the relationship many times and the results are the same every time.
