Are you fed up with constantly seeing the on-screen build number while playing the game? Until the developers either eliminate it or include an option to toggle it on or off, this guide will provide you with a solution to conceal it. This guide pertains to version 1.0.0.1005, but it is likely to remain effective for upcoming releases.
λΆμΈ μ±λͺ
To conceal the on-screen version stamp as of the time of writing this guide (v1.0.0.1055.steam), you will need to directly edit the game files. Please be aware that this may lead to unforeseen consequences in the game, and you are proceeding at your own risk. μ΄μμ μΌλ‘λ, the developers will eventually implement the option to toggle this feature on and off or remove it altogether, rendering this guide unnecessary.
Before we delve into the instructions, itβs important to acknowledge these disclaimers:
- I wonβt be able to provide support beyond the information in this guide. While this method worked for me on both Windows and Steam Deck (리λ μ€), any issues you encounter will be your responsibility.
- If you choose to proceed with this, please refrain from reporting any game bugs resulting from these modifications. You are working with altered game files, and I cannot guarantee there wonβt be other unforeseen consequences.
- As a precaution, make sure to back up your game save files (not through Steam Cloud) before making any changes. I cannot take responsibility for corrupted saves or any other issues that may arise from this process.
Remove The Version Stamp
In order to eliminate the version stamp from the game, the necessary step is to modify the game so that it no longer possesses a version number to display.
- Download a hex editor suitable for your system. For Windows, you can use HxD, and for Linux (Steam Deck), GHex is a good option.
- Launch Dave the Diver and take note of the current version stamp. As of the time of writing, κ·Έκ²μ βv1.0.0.1055.steam.β
- Locate the gameβs installed files by following these steps:
- Right-click on the game in your Steam Library.
- Go to Properties.
- Select the Installed Files tab.
- Click on the Browse button.
- In the gameβs installation directory, locate and open the file named βDaveTheDiver_Data/globalgamemanagersβ using your hex editor.
- Within the hex editor, initiate a search for the version text you noted earlier. It should be the first result matching βv1.β in the text section of the editor. Select the entire value, and be careful not to select anything else.
- In the hex side of the editor, which is typically on the left and consists of a series of numbers ranging from 0 to F, you will need to replace the selected text with all β00.β μλ₯Ό λ€μ΄, for the version βv1.0.0.1055.steam,β the original numbers would appear as β76 31 2μ΄μν 30 2μ΄μν 30 2μ΄μν 31 30 35 35 2μ΄μν 73 74 65 61 6λβ and should be replaced with β00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00.β
- After you have replaced the selected values with β00β as instructed, save the edited file. κ·Έ λ€μμ, κ²μμ μ€ννμμμ€, and you should no longer see the version stamp. If the game crashes upon startup, itβs likely that you either replaced too many or not enough values with β00.β
Please be aware that if the game receives an update, the version number will likely reappear, and you will need to repeat these changes to remove it once again.
Revert The Changes
If you wish to undo the changes you made for any reason, whether it didnβt work as expected or you want to revert to the stock version of the game, λ€μ λ¨κ³λ₯Ό λ°λ₯΄μΈμ:
- Right-click the game in your Steam Library.
- μμ±μ ν΄λ¦νμμμ€.
- Select the Installed Files tab.
- ν΄λ¦νμΈμ βVerify integrity of game files.β
Wait for the verification process to complete, and Steam will restore the most recent version of the game, removing any modifications you made in the process.
A Plea to the Devs
I appreciate your feedback and your effort to help others who share the same concern about the version stamp in the game. While I donβt have the capability to directly influence game development or make changes to the game, your request for the developers to add a toggle option in the game settings to disable the version stamp is a reasonable and user-friendly suggestion.
It would indeed be a beneficial compromise to allow players to customize this aspect of the game to enhance their experience without impacting bug reporting. I hope the developers take your feedback into consideration and implement such an option in a future update. If they do, you can then choose to update or remove your guide accordingly to reflect the changes.
