This guide will tell you everything you need to know about how to fully complete this game. Whether you have the skill to do it is your own affair, but I will at least give you the tools if you don’t want to do the searching yourself.

Les bases

Tout d'abord, a disclaimer. je’je suis sûr que tu’re tired of seeing something akin to this, Mais bien bien. This will spoil the secrets of the game. Not the story or lore, but the secrets themselves and how to get to them, with hints for the less inclined. It took me just seven hours to beat the whole game, all achievements, donc je’d highly recommend at least trying to decipher and figure out the game by yourself. This is not an experience you’d want to be robbed of if you’re in to that kind of thing. Avec ça à l'écart, we can actually get into the guide part.

You control a guy, and he climbs a mountain. He can run, tiret, and cling onto walls. He can also change the fabric of reality at the press of a button. Si tu’re bothering to read this guide, là’s an almost certain chance you’d know all that. What you may not know is the structure of the game, and how the achievements themselves work. That is what this section is for.

The game is broken up into three distinct settings, The Outskirts, Les grottes, and The Mountainside. Each combine for a total of 30 rooms in the base game, with their own unique mechanics. The Outskirts gets you used to the switching and swapping of the environment, The Caves throws all sorts of new obstacles at you while remaining almost totally closed indoors, and The Mountainside manages to add a wind mechanic that isn’t totally awful in every way.

During your initial playthrough of the game, you might by accident or on purpose stumble into a secret area. There are six secret entrances in total, each paired together for a total of three secret stages. One entrance will show a hint towards the actual entrance to a secret stage, and the other one will be said entrance to secret stage. Bien sûr, the hints are much easier to find then the secrets, and you are unlikely to just stumble into the secret stage itself.

Also during the game, you will get a number of achievements! There are nine in total, and a third will be gotten just for completing the base game. Another three will be obtained from beating all three secret stages. One will be obtained from getting the secret ending attached to those secret stages. Enfin, the last two will be obtained from performing and completing two nondescript challenges! J'en reparlerai plus tard.

Que’s all for a basic overview. For any specific information you seek, feel free to skip around.

Les secrets

This is where the game gets good. Over the course of your first playthroughs you will certainly get the impression that there is more to be found. Whether it be through finding one of the three secret maps, or by inferring it from the dialog of the player character. This section will break down all three, with hints on how to find each one with various detail.

Indice 1.

As the achievement names will tell you, there are three secret stages. Each of these stages significantly ramp up in difficulty and as such I would recommend a few playthroughs of the base levels before you attempt! Each area has two secret entrances, one map, and one secret stage.Indice 2.

The secret maps are a lot easier to find than the secret stages. This is because while they are all hidden away either behind faux walls or spikes, the maps are much easier to accidentally walk or fall into, or to spot as suspicious. Toujours, there is rhyme and reason to all of this, so I do not recommend aimlessly throwing yourself into various walls and/or spikes.Indice 3.

These secret maps that you find are just that, cartes! When I first found mine, I overthought it and made it take a lot longer than it should have. Each map corresponds with a certain screen in the base set of levels, and the glowing bit is the entrance to the secret stage itself. En outre, the lines represent the tracks moving platforms ride on, which I know confused me quite a bit before I figured it out.Indice 4.

Now is where we get into picture territory. This will show the screens in which the entrances to the cartes are found. De là, it is up to you to find them. Below are the Outskirts, Grottes, and Mountainside entrances respectively.

Faubourgs

Grottes (mind the timer)

MountainsideHint 5:

The penultimate hint will simply be a reupload of the maps themselves. One difficult thing about the maps is that you can’t go back to them in-game to look at them unless you start a new run. While they aren’t that hard to memorize, sometimes you just have to have the image. You could take pictures or screenshots yourselves, mais je’ve done the liberty of that here. Encore une fois, the maps will go in order by location of entrance!

Faubourgs

Grottes

MountainsideHint 6:

Bien, the last hint! Below will be the images of me standing directly next to the secret entrances. Encore une fois, I will reiterate, these images are going in order from Outskirts to Mountainside.

Réalisations

As I said in the beginning, most of the achievements will be completed just by playing through the game and its story. If you have found the secrets, beat the stages that go alone with them, and do all three in one run, you will be met with a final secret ending. The climber will leap from the mountain and go directly into hell, where the games final challenge lays. Twelve screens of hell await you, and once beaten will reward you with incredible storybeats and most importantly an achievement!

The final two however are a bit more scarce. Everything else before this point can be obtained from simply exploring the game, but this is different. By viewing the global achievement stats you can see the thumbnails for these ever elusive hidden achievements, and truthfully they are not much help. Le ?? et !! suggests some sort of feat being accomplished, but that is about it.

One may be inclined to speedrun the game to try and achieve a fast enough time! Après tout, the climber does accolade you for your speed in the base game if you are fast enough, so not a bad shot. Toujours, it is not correct. One might try and do a minimum deaths run, to beat the game in the least amount of retries as possible. This goes hand in hand with the speedrun theory, and it is not correct.

Non, you see, in the assists menu you will find a particular setting. Points de contrôle! The assist is on by default, but you can set that to false and enter the checkpointless run. Pour clarifier, this setting automatically turns back on upon reloading the game, mais ce n'est pas le cas’ça n'a pas d'importance. So long as you don’t actually collect a checkpoint from start to finish, the achievement should count.

Beating the base game without checkpoints should be relatively easily, if frustrating at times. Mais, si tu’ve done the other secret content at this point, this should be no challenge. Doing this will reward you with an achievement, but the other is where your troubles begin. As you might be guessing, the last achievement is obtained by getting the secret ending without checkpoints.

By beating all three secret stages as well as hell without collecting a single checkpoint, you will be able to prove your gaming prowess and the hardest achievement in this wonderful title. This took me around an hour and a half, mostly because I had only done the true ending once. The previous achievement took me all of seven minutes, so this is truly in a league of its own.

TL;RD

Almost all achievements can be obtained by playing through the game and finding the true ending. The true ending is obtained by finding all three secret stages and beating them. There are many hints across the levels that will point you in the right direction, and once you beat all three secrets in one run you may progress to the true ending. A part ça, the last two achievements remaining can be obtained by beating the base game and true ending without checkpoints by turning off the setting in the assists menu.
