Possible solution to a Unity crash on startup issue
Unité’s ‘commun’ issue.
je’ve failed multiple times while trying to launch the game, getting a black screen and then a flicker of a ‘Unity has crashed’ popup, or even getting a black screen with the game’s cursor for several seconds (making me think it would work) and have had a lot of trouble finding a solution. It seems Unity has a fairly ‘commun’ issue, which from my understanding is from Unity itself and not something a particular developper can fix.
When Unity tries to launch a game that has different resolution settings to the computer’s it can cause an immediate error, about being unable to change resolutions. This error seems to be related to a computer’s ‘scaling’ settings for screen resolution, and turning off said scaling settings should fix the issue (Je peux’t guarantee this, but it did for me, so feedback would be appreciated).
Fenêtres 10 Internal Display solution
This is the solution I found worked for Windows 10 (for other versions presumably there will be some similarities)
- Open the start menu (Clé Windows).
- Cliquez Paramètres (The gear Icon in the bottom left just above the power icon).
- Cliquez Système.
- This should automatically put you in the Afficher section, if not click Afficher on the left hand menu.
- About half way down the options there should be a Scale and Layout section which should include Change the size of text, apps and other items (essentially a zoom) as well as resolution and display orientation.
- Below the size change option there should be a blue text Advanced scaling settings, click on this.
- At the very top of the page there should be Fix scaling for apps with a toggle, this should be turned off.
Facultatif:
Vérifier Windows Updater for driver updates.
- Open the start menu (Clé Windows).
- Cliquez Vérifier les mises à jour (The gear Icon in the bottom left just above the power icon).
- Cliquez Vérifier les mises à jour.
- Click the grey box with Vérifier les mises à jour (near the top, a little left of centre).
- Wait for the check to finish, and any updates to download.
- Restart and install updates.
FacultatifManually check if your driver is up to date (significantly more complicated and I’m not going to give a guide for this).
Nvidia
This I can’t verify due to windows/Nvidia issues, but I will give what steps I can if someone wants to verify them themself:
- Open Nvidia Control Panel
- Open start menu (Windows key) or search.
- Start typing Panneau de configuration Nvidia.
- Cliquez sur Panneau de configuration Nvidia when you get the result.
- In the directory on the left there should be a series of categories (Si vous avez seulement 3D Settings the control panel has an issue and you might not be able to complete these steps).
- Sélectionner 3D Settings.
- Sélectionner Gérer les paramètres 3D.
- Sélectionner Global Settings (Optionally you can select Program Settings and tune controls for each program).
- Brows the list of Paramètres pour Image Scaling (this should be near the top).
- Sélectionner Image Scaling.
- Turn off scaling.
If you have the earlier-mentioned issue of only having the 3D Settings category and do not have an Image Scaling setting there are some options you can try, but none of these can be guaranteed:
- Reset Nvidia. (Recommended to copy these instructions or open them on another device, will require two restarts, my understanding of computer drivers isn’t the best so there may be issues).
- Open start menu (Windows key) or search.
- Rechercher Device Manager.
- Ouvrir Device Manager.
- Cliquez sur Display adaptors (should be about 1/3rd of the way down the list).
- Right Click on your Nvidia driver to bring up the drop down menu.
- Cliquez Disable device.
- Redémarrez votre ordinateur.
- Repeat all earlier steps, except this time select Enable device (again followed by restarting your computer).
- Try accessing Panneau de configuration Nvidia encore.
- Try updating Nvidia drivers via Geforce.
- Open start menu (Windows key) or search.
- Rechercher Nvidia Geforce.
- Ouvrir Nvidia Geforce.
- Cliquez sur Drivers (en haut à gauche).
- Cliquez sur Check for Updates (en haut à droite).
- If there is a driver update click Télécharger, if not your drivers may be up to date and unable to help.
- Once the driver has finished downloading, click the install option you find preferable.
- Facultatif: Redémarrez votre ordinateur
- Attempt to change the scaling settings again.
- Semi-manually Update your driver using Nvidia’s downloadable installer, This can be a complicated process and I’m not going to go into it due to lack of skills and risks involved, but there are multiple dedicated guides on the internet for this.
