Twilight Struggle Red Sea – How to Backup and Restore Your Saves

Twilight Struggle: Red Sea does not save game progress to the cloud. Use this guide to back up and restore your game data.

Game Introduction

Twilight Struggle: Red Sea does not store your game saves in the cloud. If you install this game on a different PC, your save data will be lost unless you follow these steps. This guide is accurate as of the latest version of Red Sea at the time of this writing (Julio 10, 2023).

What kind of data is in the saves?

• Online profile and login information
• Online Friends List
• Offline profile win/loss history
• Achievement history (in-game achievements separate, but linked to Steam achievements)
• All games in progress and unfinished

Backup Steps

The saved data is stored in two places: AppData and the Windows registry.

1. Navegar a

   C:\Users\<Nombre de usuario>\AppData\LocalLow\Playdek\RedSea

2. Copy and paste the OfflineProfiles.dat file into a separate location where you plan to store your game saves.
3. Also copy and paste any «Save*.dat» archivos (p.ej. Save1Full.dat, Save1Short.dat) to the same backup location. These are any unfinished, in-progress games you have in RedSea.

Windows Registry

1. Click the Windows button
2. Tipo «regedit», luego seleccione «abierto» (you don’t need admin mode to back up your data)
3. In the registry window navigate to:

   Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Playdek\RedSea

4. Right click on the RedSea folder/key, seleccionar «Exportar».
5. Give it a descriptive name like «TwilightStruggleRedSeaRegistryKey.reg» and save it to the same location where you saved your backup of OfflineProfiles.dat.

Eso es todo. Your saves are now backed up and you can safely uninstall your game.

Restore Steps

DESCARGO DE RESPONSABILIDAD: You should be warned that if you do this (or the previous steps) incorrectly, you risk corrupting your game data. It should also be noted that modifying the Windows registry is risky for anyone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. In addition to game data, the Windows registry also contains system settings that, if modified incorrectly, can mess up your entire operating system. I believe my steps are fairly specific, simple, and foolproof (I have done them many times myself with this and other games), but just be advised that you follow them at your own risk.

1. Primero, install Red Sea, if it is not already installed.
2. Copy the «OfflineProfiles.dat» file that you had backed up earlier.
3. Paste this «OfflineProfiles.dat» file into

   C:\Users\<Nombre de usuario>\AppData\LocalLow\Playdek\RedSea

4. Do the same with any «Save*.dat» files you backed up earlier (if you had any).
5. Click the windows button
6. Tipo «regedit», luego seleccione «Run as administrator»
7. In the registry window navigate to:

   Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Playdek\RedSea

8. In the registry window select the «Archivo» menu then select «Importar»
9. Navigate to where you saved your «TwilightStruggleRedSeaRegistryKey.reg» from earlier. Select this file and click «abierto». It may prompt you to confirm. Proceder.
10. To verify, empezar el juego. Check your profile and achievement progress mentioned in the section above called «What kind of data is in the saves?».
11. If all checks out, you are done. Continuar jugando el juego.
