Mass Exodus Redux – Cloak and Dagger Achievement Bug Fix

Hintergrund

Due to an unrelated issue with the current release of Mass Exodus, one of you kind souls shared this link with me that indicates how you can roll back the code and play earlier versions of Steam games. After reading this, it dawned on me that the same process can be used for fixing broken achievements. As you can see in the global achievements view, some people HAVE earned „cloak and dagger“ which means the achievement WAS working at a certain point in time before it stopped working. So through trial and error I dug through the releases until I found one that DID work.

Later I realized that this process is also fairly well established in the Steam group „100% Achievements Group“

Schritte

At a high level the steps are:

1. Download an older version of Mass Exodus using Steam console
2. Copy the old Mass Exodus files into the game directory
3. Perform the steps in game to earn the achievement.

Detailed list of steps:

1. Click your windows button and type „laufen“ then press enter
2. Type the following then press enter:
   steam://open/console
3. At the top of your steam window you should see the world „Konsole“ along with a text box at the bottom of your screen that you can now type into. In this text box type the following then press enter:
   download_depot 566530 566531 5857139468893347365
4. A little explanation of the above command. You are basically telling Steam that for app 566530(Mass Exodus), download from code depot 566531, the code release 5857139468893347365 (Nov 28, 2018). These numbers can be seen/verified on the steamdb site: https://steamdb.info/depot/566531/manifests/ (siehe Screenshot unten)
5. The above command will run for a while. There’s no progress tracker in the Steam app to let you know how it’s going, but it took me about 30 – 45 minutes to download this manifest. When it’s done it will let you know with the console message: „Depot download complete“. It will also give you a path of where it downloaded to. Copy this path and navigate to it in your Windows file explorer.
6. Copy the contents of the directory.
7. In your Steam library right click on Mass Exodus Redux and select „Verwalten“ -> „Durchsuchen Sie lokale Dateien“. It will open a 2nd file explorer window where the active Mass Exodus Redux game files are.
8. Paste your downloaded files INTO this directory. Overwrite all files when prompted.
9. Launch the Mass Exodus Redux game from Steam.
10. Play through a normal game and as the rogue activate your invisible power right before deactivating a switch. You should get the achievement immediately.

That’s done, now how do I get back on the newest working release?

Stand heute( Mai 3, 2023) the latest working release is 5539609951378597983. I suggest you download that manifest and copy that one into your game files once you’re done. If that gives you any issues, simply uninstall and reinstall the game. Mass Exodus doesn’t have any save files that I know of(nor any purpose for them) so there’s nothing to lose by wiping out everything and reinstalling.

What about the other broken achievement, „Baby Schritte“?

This process should work on „Baby Schritte“ zu, however I was not able to find a code release that worked. According to the official news posts, the playable tutorial was only added in the Feb 21, 2020 freigeben, which is only 3 releases back. Im guessing the achievement for that playable tutorial was added at roughly the same time.

I THINK the manifest ID 2930783884982460783 is the one you need to earn the „Baby Schritte“ Leistung(the release when it first came out). Jedoch, this version is bugged for me(special powers are not selectable) and thus I cannot complete the tutorial. Perhaps it will work for you. Let me know if it does. Ive tried every release after this one and I just got the same old results of completing the tutorial but earning no achievement. I’ve completed the pre-playable tutorials in older versions and got nothing.
