This guide provides detailed instructions on obtaining all the achievements in Big Klondike, a solitaire game. The achievements range from winning specific games to reaching certain milestones in terms of gameplay duration and earnings. Let’s explore each achievement individually.
The Basics
Solitaire is an uncomplicated game characterized by clear-cut regulations. It comprises of two sections: the upper board and the playing area. Cards positioned in the upper board must be stacked in ascending order, commencing with Ace (A) and followed by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (J), Queen (Q), and King (K), all belonging to the same suit (matching color and symbol). The suits consist of Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. The initial card in a stack within the upper board must always be an Ace, and the use of wild cards is not permitted in the upper board.
In contrast, the cards in the playing area adhere to opposite rules. It is possible to place a card of the opposite color (symbols only matter in terms of black for Clubs and Spades, and red for Diamonds and Hearts) that holds a rank one lower than the current card. The order of ranking is completely opposite to that of the upper board: King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and Ace (A). For instance, if a Black 5 is present, a red 4 can be placed on it, and on a red 4, a black 3 can be placed. It is also permissible to move stacks of cards between piles of the same color and value. This means that a stack of 5, 4, and 3 from a 6 of diamonds can be relocated to a 6 of hearts. Aces are exclusively placed in the upper board, ensuring that an Ace is never present in the playing area unless it is the beginning of a game or when flipping an upside-down card. Initially, the cards in the playing area are regarded as wild cards, allowing them to be treated as partial stacks. Standard stacks commence with a King, hence, if all the wild cards from the “free spaces” are successfully moved, standard stacks can be initiated in those spaces.
The deck allows for card flipping (cycling through), and upon reaching the end of the deck, it is recycled by returning to the first card and going through the deck again. One significant disparity between Vegas mode and Standard play is that in Vegas mode, only one complete cycle through the deck is allowed. This adds to the challenge as strategic decisions need to be made regarding which cards to carry into the later stages of the game. In Standard play, cycling through the deck is permissible repeatedly. For instance, if the card needed was three cards ago in the deck, one can flip to the end and start anew. However, in Vegas mode, it is essential to either have the required card in possession or find a way to access it by bringing down any cards from the deck that lie between the player and the desired card.
When playing according to Vegas rules, each round incurs a cost of $1 per card (totaling $52). At the outset, the player’s funds stand at $0, resulting in a balance of -$52. Every card placed into the upper board yields a return of $5. Cards can be extracted from the upper pool and utilized in the playing area if necessary, and they do not entail any financial cost. Nevertheless, each card can only generate $5 in winnings once. With a deck consisting of 52 cards, the maximum potential value that can be earned is $260 (hence, up to $206 can be earned per game, inclusive of the ante cost). Therefore, it is only necessary to place enough cards in the upper board to break even in each game. Consequently, even in
the event of a loss, it is still possible to accrue funds in one’s pool by making sufficient moves (since Vegas rules games are randomly dealt, there is a chance of receiving an unsolvable game, but one should not be disheartened).
Winner Winner
Win your first game
This achievement is relatively straightforward. Simply win a game of solitaire by selecting a draw 1 option and choosing a winnable game. If you’re new to the game, it may take a few attempts to grasp the mechanics. Exercise patience.
Undophobia
Win a game without using undo
Similar to the “Winner Winner” achievement, this one is fairly simple. Play the game without pressing the undo move button at all. You can easily earn this achievement alongside the previous one.
Play Perfection
Win a game without attempting any bad moves
This achievement is as simple as it sounds. Refrain from randomly clicking on cards and ensure that every move you make is a legal one.
RNGeeze
Win a game with a random deal
These games are more challenging to win because, unlike winnable games, solitaire’s random card distribution often results in a significant number of unwinnable games.
Trifectasol
Win 3 games in a row
This achievement requires some experience with the game, but it’s relatively easy to accomplish. Just make sure you don’t lose in three successive games. Simple enough.
Viva Las Vegas
Win a Vegas game
Attain victory in a game with Vegas scoring. Since these games are randomly dealt, you may have to attempt this achievement several times, possibly even a dozen times.
Daily Five
Win five games on a single day
Keep playing and strive to win five games within a single day. You don’t have to achieve back-to-back wins, so this achievement is relatively manageable when playing winnable deals.
Big 50
Win 50 games
This achievement primarily requires patience (or a fondness for the game). If you enjoy solitaire, playing a few games during your downtime will eventually allow you to reach the goal of winning 50 games. It’s advisable not to attempt grinding out all 50 games in a single session to avoid burnout. Instead, play a few games each day.
Bigger 100
Win 100 games
Similar to the previous achievement, this one simply extends the goal to winning 100 games. It can be quite time-consuming to achieve.
Streak Me
Win 7 games in a row
This achievement demands experience and is best pursued in winnable games. Otherwise, if you opt for random draws, you may never achieve this milestone.
Diligent Gamer
Play every day of the week
Simply play a single game of solitaire on each day of the week. Make sure to play at least one game on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and so on.
Early Bird
Win a game between 4AM and 8AM
Wake up before work or school and play a quick game of solitaire early in the morning to fulfill this achievement.
Night Owl
Win a game between 8PM and 3AM
This achievement is relatively easier since you can play a game in the evening, just before going to bed, to fulfill the requirement.
Deck Champ
Win a game without recycling the deck more than once
Under Vegas scoring, this achievement becomes essential. As the name suggests, refrain from recycling the deck more than once. This is relatively easy to accomplish in a winnable deal.
Quick Flash
Win a game under 3 minutes
Play a winnable game and utilize your experience to complete it within the time limit of 3 minutes. With sufficient familiarity, this should be an achievable feat.
Speedy Rabbit
Win a game under 5 minutes
This achievement is even easier than “Quick Flash.” Similarly, play a winnable game and aim to complete it within 5 minutes by maintaining a swift pace.
Slowpoke Turtle
Win a game longer than 10 minutes
You can accomplish this achievement alongside “Idle Mode.” Select a winnable game and activate the timer. Wait until the timer reaches 10:00 to fulfill the requirements. Alternatively, wait until 30:00 to simultaneously achieve the “Idle Mode” achievement.
Idle Mode
Win a game longer than 30 minutes
To fulfill this achievement, refrain from using the auto-complete button and play a timed winnable game. Move every card, except the last King, into the top board. After 30:00, complete the game to fulfill the requirements. This achievement is relatively straightforward.
Benjamin
Have $100 total accumulative at once
To achieve this, you’ll need Vegas scoring. You can earn this by winning a Vegas game or by moving enough cards into the top board to exceed $100 in your pool. If you’re losing a game but have more than $0 in your pool, select the “Next Game” button instead of the “New Game” button, as the latter will reset your current pool. If you end the game with less than $0 in your pool, choose “New Game.”
High Roller
Earn $1,000 total
This achievement is based on total earnings, meaning it accumulates over time. You don’t have to win a single game to complete this achievement. Even if your earnings reach $-15,000, as long as you move enough cards into the top board (a total of 200 cards) across multiple games, you will eventually unlock this achievement.
Conclusion
Although I initially wrote this guide primarily for the “High Roller” and “Benjamin” achievements, I decided to list all 20 achievements. If you enjoy solitaire, you may unintentionally unlock a significant number of these achievements simply by playing the game. Big Klondike is the best solitaire option on Windows currently because it features card art suitable for all ages and doesn’t display disruptive advertisements between games. This is why I recommend playing Big Klondike instead of the solitaire games available on the Microsoft Store.
I mostly played Big Klondike as a hobby, rather than specifically aiming for the achievements. Therefore, it’s likely that you can achieve 100% completion of the achievements in less time than I spent playing the game. I only took a look at the remaining achievements and quickly sorted them out when I decided to upload this guide. Initially, when I saw the “High Roller” achievement for $1,000, I thought it meant having $1,000 on hand. Fortunately, that’s not the case.
That's everything we are sharing today for this Big Klondike guide. This guide was originally created and written by Vivian James. In case we fail to update this guide, you can find the latest update by following this link.
